Re: Clum Switch Lettering

I have tried this on other stuff. And I have tried to go back in time to figure out how they did it in the day. They would have not done one at a time. It would have been a process. I have an old one and may try this first so you dont waste a good finish on yours. I have learned that there is a wipe...

Re: Old subject. Oil recommendations. 'W' motors.

Been there done that, I have a new W as well. I have tried it all, and the hands down number one oil is Shell Rotel 40 wgt. Also its critical you change the oil alot. Or it will smell like hell. I know. The viscosity breaks down and you get back pressure. Oil change and gone. I have done countless s...

Re: finally removed my engines for the rebuild and seeking advice

I use this stuff called Purple Power, its all the hardware stores. Its purple and a concentrate. Spray it on. wait and spray, repeat. It will remove the paint as well if left on too long. Its great for bilges as well. Use a scrub brush, amazing stuff.

Re: What are you working on during lock downs?

What a great post Steve! I have been working on a fun double secret surprise for all in Woodyboaterville. I will say that working on my boats has saved my life in so many ways.. So far.. This summer was one of the best in my life because of boats. This winter. Yup, boats. And all of you in this wond...

Re: TRAILER

You can rent a flatbead from Uhaul and put it on a cradle. Borrow a trailer to tow it. Then when you are done restoring it, get a new trailer. The trailer you buy now will sit, and be a waste. If you need something for it to sit on in your shop. Classic Boat Connection has some great rolling cradles...

You can have them X rayed and a machine shop. It will show all the flaws. Thats the ultimate way. They are not that hard to find. To be double sure have your local Machine shop clean them and bake them and check for stuff then.

Re: Boat shipping

I am in Eastern VA on the Northern Neck. Matching color isnt that big of a deal, and depending on where the damage is, they may have to take it all down to the wood anyway. Did you ask the shop? If not the go to guy is John Freeman. He tows boats allover the place. I dont recall the price though, an...

Re: Boat shipping

Jim is right. But if you get someone from the place thats doing your hull, they can come from there with an empty trailer. Might help, the boat repair place I am sure is motivated to help you. Also, there are places on the east coast that can do amazing work on your hull. What state are you in.

Re: exhaust fumes

Same issue and some engines do it more than others. Just like Bilge Rat said. And I suppose Mrs Rat hates it even more. One simple fix is to change the oil. I did that and it cut it way way down.. Many of our engines dont have filters. It is a blow by and on an older engine can be because of the rin...

The one at Freedom is amazing and the right one to have. It can be stowed away and all thought through. Also anything off the transom has to be screwed into the boat, and your feet are near the prop, which is insane dangerous. YA NEVER KNOW.

Re: 1948 Chris Craft Runabout Deluxe Storage Cradle

Each model had a different cradle. So you would want to match one up to your boat. Hope this helps. BTW, I use metal ones that have wheels so I can move the boats around. But thats for working on them in the barn.

Its normal. Water also keeps it from squeeking. And Drot is right. They will move on ya. And start in gear as well. It will move while up on land. BTW, when running it on land. Make sure you have water in a 5 gallonbucket with a hose running from it to the water pump. Let the waterpump suck in the w...

Re: Soaking

Hi David, great boat! You are doing it all, but you need to drop in in the drink. On a trailer for a bit. Have a bilge pump. Note that in cold water it takes longer to soak. Also if you fill the boat from the inside it can swell from the inside out vs outside in. Try it in the lake. But it may take ...

Re: 55' Holiday, does this look right?

POP Yachts over prices a lot. Kl is a great engine. Lots of power. West bottom can be tricky depending on who did it and the age. Everything is bonded together forever. No swelling, like 5200 Allows that to happen. This is a 10K boat, not 20. The boat in in Florida, someone in the SUNNYLAND chapter ...

Re: 55' Holiday, does this look right?

They are 100% correct. Comments and boat. I like these without all the fancy stuff. The seats look off? As to cosmetics. THE BOTTOM is where the money is. BOTTOM BOTTOM BOTTOM. Engine is also another deal, but not as costly as a bottom. Easy 20K job. As in an easy 20K. So if the boat has an original...

Re: Pre war Chris Craft welting/Piping configuration?

Hi Joe, since no expert has replied, I will try. Sorry. The question is kinda confusing. The welting on the cushions? Or the seat backs? Cushions are all the same with welting all around. The seats, SOME, had welting dividing the sea backs. The photos attached are a 1939 17 Utility. UNTOUCHED. ORIGI...
