Re: Can’t figure it out!
I realize this is an old post, however, as a general rule, if you increase your rpm and your oil pressure drops that means it you’re low on oil. Another indicator is if you pull back on the throttle quickly if your oil pressure drops, it means that the oil is running away from the pick up and when i...

Re: 1941 K Distributor Cap and Rotor
The 12 V per Tronics module in the I GW distributor works quite well and reliably. The 6 V version has problems because the module Ceases to function properly at 5 V. The 6 volt version is also susceptible to noise coming from the Generator. We have come up with ways around that however your best lu...

Re: 1955 Model A Hercules. Van Ness engineering
The model a Chris-Craft engine used an OXKB 90 or a 1XkA 90 transmission. The model B used a 1XE 90 The model a originally had hard motor mounts although many of them Have been replaced with rubber Otherwise they are dominantly the same engine. The 15 foot cavalier mostly use the model A. The model ...

Has your generator been converted to 12 V. If not you can get an over voltage condition that can damage your batteries and your ignition system. If it has been converted then the third brush probably needs adjusting

Re: KLC carb (Zenith 11168 / 552M) mix screw adjustment
A good starting point for the high speed adjustment is three turns out from fully closed. For the idle mixture screw one and a quarter turns out from fully closed is a good starting point Your engine should run well with these preliminary settings

Re: Adding a Temp gauge to a CC 105hp "K" engine
I don’t think it much matters whether you use an electrical gauge or a mechanical gauge that uses a capillary tube. Your big challenge is to find a gauge that matches the cosmetics of your other gauges and getting the plug out of the side of the head. Once you’ve accomplished that either one will wo...

Re: Bad coil?
A spark coil Ceases to work properly when it gets warm because of something known as the Curie effect. A spark coil is a transformer basically. It has a primary side which is a coil of wire and a secondary side which is also a coil of wire. The secondary side has many more turns of wire than the pri...

Re: Hydraulic transtran
If you’re talking about a paragon transmission like an HF7 then you can’t accomplish what you were trying to do. You can run the transmission on a left or right hand Engine by reversing the pump on the front of the transmission. But the output shaft is going to run the direction of the engine. The f...

Re: Repower or rebuild
It’s not uncommon for a K block to have a crack. I would say 50% of the blocks we work on have a crack someplace. The most common crack is from the valve seat running over to a cylinder and maybe down the cylinder. Normally you would pin the block replace the valve seat and install a sleeve. If done...

Re: Repowering from Hercules
You may want to consider a pair of beta diesels they’re lightweight smooth running and you can run the transmissions in either directions to get your Port and starboard engine. I don’t think you’ll find a huge difference in price From a gasoline engine although the correct diesel might be a bit more...

<t>Hi Joe which cylinder you pick as number one is somewhat arbitrary so long as you follow the proper firing order. If you think of the aft end of your engine as actually the front of your engine if it were in a car then the Aft cylinder would be number one. As for your timing the best thing to do ...

Joe drain back both of your carburetors through the main jet plug which is on the back of the carburetor pointing about 45°. You’ve had this problem before and one of your carburetors more than likely has dirt in the main jet

Re: Paragon Manual Gearbox HP rating
When we use this transmission on engines of higher power than the original 185 hp we add an extra steel and bronze plate. This increases the surface area making it less likely to slip and reduces the shifting effort to put the transmission in gear. Anyone interested in our technique please feel free...

Re: Repowering 1957 26ft CC Clipper
A word of caution about using a longblock intended for automotive use for marine use. 1. The crankshaft would have to be removed the engine, rifle drilled and polished so that you can properly lubricate the transmission. 2. The camshaft is incorrect for the power curve needed for a marine engine. So...

There is quite bit of work involved to rebuild and convert a generator, Removing the pole shoes can be a challenge the screws that hold them were put in with an impact tool. Hi
I set the lock bolt a eleven o'clock and lock the trans in reverse then loosen the lock bold and move the outer drum to twelve o'clock and tighten lock screw. This should stop the slipping and shorten the throw.

Re: Riviera KBL Engine Oil Pressure Gage Connection
No all the oil goes through the oil cooler.
If the engine was assembled properly there is a pipe plug under the oil pump which directs the flow of oil out to the side of the engine then through the oil cooler and then back into the main oil galley.
