Well I think I know what the problem is. I took off the pan and discovered I hadn’t tightened the oil pickup tube where it connects to the pickup filter. Foam in oil

SBC 283 not rebuilt but cleaned up new gaskets fresh oil. Upon startup ran great. Turned off checked oil level and noticed foam or bubbles on dip stick. Let sit about 45 minuets checked oil again with dip stick and oil was clean no bubbles or foam. Started up again ran for 5 minutes turned off check...

Thanks Joanroy and George for your replies. The stain I used was not Gel Stain but it was custom made for the color by a Professional who knows his stuff.
