Well I thought about it. And I looked at the boats posted and how frequently (or infrequently) they are posted...and went with eBay. The actual posting charge was only just over $12. BUT, if it sells, I pay $125. I'm guessing it'll sell, there's already been a bid. The choice of where to post it was...

1969 CC Ski Boat, eBay listing.
My little ski boat is up for auction. I've greatly, greatly appreciated the sage advice from contributers at this outstanding resource for Chris-Craft. Ya'll helped me through an issue with my shaft log (no snickering, please, this is a serious post...) and with the Ivalite and the rudder. You've ta...

Alternator
Hey all! Quick question for the experts: I need a new alternator. Well, I think I do. The battery in my 1969 ski boat doesn't hold a charge AND if I unplug the battery (while the motor's running) and then turn on the Ivalite, the engine cuts off immediately. That tells me that it's not producing eno...

Ivalite repair
Let me start by saying that if I knew the repair was actually going to work, I'd have taken some photos. Alright. The signs: the inner cable of my Ivalite was visible when the handle was in the neutral (i.e. light is on the horizon) position. So either the cable was too long, or the housing around i...

I found something. Can anyone help identify a part?
So I'm busy cleaning the bilge of my little ski boat and I come across a piece of metal (see photos). It was sitting unattached to anything half submerged in bilge water in the narrow area just to the side of the main engine compartment. I'm not sure what that area's called, it's the space through w...

I think you may have something with the exhaust area being the culprit. I plan on resealing beneath the rub-rails when I replace them this winter and I'll reseal around the exhaust too. I've heard good things about 3M 5200 and 4200. Hey, while I have your attention, it's clear that my current rub-ra...

No, it's an inboard 327Q. The offset of the assembly is easily explained as a convenience feature during removal of the prop shaft. I should've figured that out immediately. The slight angle of the rudder itself...not so easy. You see, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that a previous owner smacke...

So I'm looking things over: the whole rudder assembly (including the fiberglass depression into which the external rudder support bracket sits) is shifted about three-quarters of an inch to port. So that's shifted AND the rudder's bent. This has to be part of the design. I have to leave things alone...

Is my rudder bent?
My rudder veers slightly to port. It's straight until emerging from the hull then makes about a 7-8 shift to the left and is perfectly straight (albeit directly slightly left) throughout it's course outside the boat. I've removed it and given it a good looking-over. It's not damaged. It truly seems ...

Hello all! The short version of my question goes like this: when does one diagnose a leaky stuffing box? Should the shaft log be turning? or idling? or neither? The long version goes like this: On the maiden voyage with my 17 foot glass ski boat, I noted quite a bit of vibration at moderate speeds. ...

Thanks drrot. I think everything may be ok. I got behind the tach and removed an L-shaped connector. I took this apart, cleaned/greased the gears well and lubed up the spinning bit on the back of the tach itself (so that it spun freely and so that I could see the tach needle move). I reassembled the...

I unscrewed the tach cable from the rear of the tach and was surprised to find that the small metal pin which attaches to the cable EASILY fell off and remained with the tach. After dislodging it (and removing quite a build-up of crud) I unscrewed the cable from the rear of the engine to inspect the...

Help with tachometer-1969 Ski boat.
Hello all, The tachometer in my recently purchased 1969 ski boat doesn't work. The gentleman who owned it prior casually remarked that it needed a new cable. I think I laughed and that was that. Well, it may be the cable...or it may not. I have no idea. Is there a diagnostic work-up one might underg...
