Re: Bottom work

Yeah, if you're not finding any delaminations or rot anywhere, I would patch it. Chris Craft used the best quality marine plywood available, back in those days.

Re: Bottom work

I wouldn't feel bad about doing it that way. Make sure you glue it well and make some good battens at the seams.

Re: Bottom work

Have you considered patching rather than pulling a whole section that might still be good? That is an advantage of plywood construction, you can do that. Cutting out a small part is a lot easier.

Welcome, looks like a fun project you have there. 8) Cavaliers are fairly easy to work on, being a little less complex than some. Keep us posted with your progress. What does she have for power?

I imagine so, she was Westbound for Chicago. I got an up close look at the fuel dock.

Re: Marianne's first 700 mile leg of the Great Loop

I just saw Marianne stopped for fuel today in Lyons. She is quite beautiful. Talked with the Captain for a moment, nice guy. He described the hull as all original except for the chines, excellent shape. I love the custom wet bar on the aft deck.
Truly a fine example. 8)

Re: Cockpit floor stain

Cockpit decking on cruisers were either douglas fir or teak, the difference is obviously the teak is the much harder of the two. Neither was stained. I varnished over the caulking because I wanted to tone down the seams for a patina look, just a preference. I would post a picture but it appears I no...

Re: Hercules ML starting issues

What I meant, are the plug wires in the right sequence for the direction the distributer is turning. I saw where someone installed the plug wires on the port side same as the stb engine. Port engine obviously didn't run. Watched the video, almost sounds like your starter might be turning the wrong w...

I am in Pittsford, and I believe Captain Nemo is a few locks to the east and 61skiff is a few locks to the west. Let us know when you visit and we can meet up for a Canal side lunch and or drinks.

Just an update, I have been working w/ my state senator, assemblyman, and my town supervisor. The have all penned letters to the canal corp. I have also circulated a petition. Hopefully some political pressure on the powers that be will change things. It is too bad that they think they can marginali...

I agree w/ Joanroy, That is the reason the went to a pickup tube thru the top of the tank. Any hole in the bottom of a gas tank intentional or unintentional is asking for big trouble.

Re: recommisioning the 46ft conny

I did a quick web search on the Pacer conversions. It seems there was a time period that Pacer used both the GM 427 block and the Ford 427, same HP @320. I had mentioned about changing the hoses which may be a little hard to come by as they are molded and rather unique to the Pacer engines. Probably...

Re: recommisioning the 46ft conny

I think you're making the right decision, with the boat being that far from home. Obviously the main thing is to get her seaworthy. I don't know that their crew is willing to take the time to slick seam all the bottom. At an hourly rate might that be a good chunk of change for just that. Slapping a ...
