I just read the "Classic Boating" article. I noted the inaccuracy about Thompson Boat Co. of New York, Inc. having their toes in a fiberglass program prior to the purchase by Chris-Craft in January 1962. As you know, this is not true. Thanks Paul for the explanation. Also, the new fiberglass Corsair...

The episode first aired about a year ago. Yup, it's daddy Winn and three sons. Hummm, I am the fifth of six sons. Maybe my father's business should have been called "Rhude Structures" or "Seven Rhude Timbers" or "Timber Rhude" or "Rhude Engineered Timbers" or maybe use the actual last name "Ruudsber...

Chrysler engine on a stern drive
Hey all, I just obtained a wooden lapstrake stern drive boat by Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. She's a 1963 Off-Shore Deluxe 20'-4" model with Eaton Marine Powernaut outdrive, serial number B-20548. The engine is a Chrysler straight 6, model 225AYALX and serial number 80503. Cast into the block is the...

Lemonade yellow was a standard Pettit colour from the 1950s and 1960s. It was used by Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. on the Sea Lancer model. George Kirby, Jr. Paint Co. of New Bedford, Mass makes a perfect match and this was used on my '57 Sea Lancer. It is a very pale yellow. Andreas http://s1.posti...

Bad idea. Indivuals and corporations have been glassing wooden boats since fiberglass was first around the boating world in the 1940s, so Sierra Boat Company didn't originate this technique. My 1955 Thompson 14 ft. Thomboy wooden strip built boat has factory applied fiberglass to the bottom. It has ...

I have the same drain plug in my 1966 CC by Thompson Corsair Sport V 17'-6" outboard. It is above the floor pan. There is NO drain plug below ther floor pan in the bilge area. The splash well has a couple of drain holes thru the transom. No plug necessary. Very typical of an outboard wooden or fiber...

Telephone Kirby, do not email them. I love Kirby paints and highly recommend them. GREAT people, a small family owned business operating since the 1840s, and wonderful products. They will custom mix colours if you can't find one of their standards you do not like. I have used their paints on lapstra...
