1958 15' Cavalier flooring material
Our son recently bought back the Cavalier I restored in the 1980's. He ordered the build sheet from the museum and in that sheet it indicates the boat had linoleum flooring. I doesn't indicate the pattern. Does anyone have a picture of the original floor covering or know the proper name?

Re: Alternator
I recently converted to alternator for my KLC. Pat Crusse at Crussen Classics (sp?) had an adapter machined and it uses a modern alternator. Not cheap at all, but it works perfectly and is clean looking. I made a slight change in the installation. It is a 2 wire alternator with one wire going to the...

What model boat is yours? There are bronze reproductions and that's what I did for my KLC. But, the hull design dictates the style (curvature/ angle).

Re: Generator 3rd brush
I'm scrolling through all posts tonight and saw yours from some time back. I too am dealing with the 3 brush generator on my KLC. Chris Craft used the Autolight generators and they are different from the Delco. The Delco has a screw on the rear housing of the generator that locks the 3rd brush in pl...

Re: KLC carb schematic
Tom, thank you so much for that....it answers the question. What's going on with my carb is at idle it is dumping gas out of the vacuum hole that provides the vacuum for the accelerator pump, and we can't figure out why. We plugged the hole and the engine runs fine. What's confusing us is I have a s...

KLC carb schematic
My KLC carb dumps gas from a port just below the flange and at idle floods badly. The air screw has no effect on the idle either. I sent the carb off for a rebuild and when I got it back it's doing the same thing. So we put a plug in that hole and the engine runs fine and the air screw works as it s...

Re: 1940 Deluxe stern pole length.
Regarding the screw that locks the pole in, I knew well that the wood screw wouldn't last, so I used a machine screw whose threads would be tight in the hole, ran a tap through the hole matching the threads on the screw. I then turned the outside diameter of the screw down and screwed it in the hole...

Re: Adding a Temp gauge to a CC 105hp "K" engine
I also like having a temp gauge. Right after my initial launch the temp gauge played an important part in keeping my engine safe. The waterpump key sheared and I was able to see the temp rise and shut the engine down. I'm not keen on adding instruments and switches to the dash that aren't authentic,...

Re: Distributor cap
Those of us who collect and restore antique outboards are well aware of the condenser issues. There is a tremendous amount of junk out there and some of it carries old, reputable names. We are seeing imports that are out of specs and yet are being sold as direct replacements by dealers. The reason f...

Re: Advice on trailer purchase
The trailer that was under my '55 17 Sportsman when I bought it was for a Malibu Custom ski boat. The previous owner probably bought the trailer just to get the boat to Florida. It has 6 bunks on it but like all custom trailers. it was designed to fit a particular hull. The boat fit pretty good but ...

Fender cleat location
Some time ago there was a discussion about how many fender cleats came on the Chris Crafts. My 1955 17' Sportsman's build sheet says mine had 6. When I got the boat, there were only 4 and the boat had undergone a restoration (an incorrect one) a number of years ago. [b]So where, if you had 4, or 6, ...

Sometime ago I posted a similar question as I experienced the same thing. I'm currently restoring a 17' Sportsman and prior to beginning the stain/varnish I did some research and found that gell stain and Petit's sealer were popular. So I did exactly as you've done and had the same results. ( I assu...

Re: Fuel Pipe sealant
That is the info I was looking for! Thanks. Both mating surfaces of the nut and tank are concave which would allow for a seal to be crushed into place tight. I have a lathe and could make a Delrin seal but it won't crush and make a tight seal into the threads.

Fuel Pipe sealant
Both the tank fitting and the lock nut on my Sportsman have concave recesses. Obviously there is some sort of packing to prevent leakage. What do you use between the nut and tank to seal the joint? Would the flax packing work?

Re: 327F oil sender removal
Once you remove that sending unit do a temporary install of a mechanical gauge,--and use a good one. Take readings at idle and high idle and then compare to your electrical gauge once you've installed the new sending unit. That helps to determine if something else is going on.

Re: Removal of a broken engine plate drive screw
There's no doubt on my end that this drive screw is hard. I'm well aware of using LH drills to back out threads, but I've gone through 3 bits so far and even using tapmatic I can't make progress. I'm thinking about using a carbide drill with a drill stop as my next approach and if necessary, tap the...

Removal of a broken engine plate drive screw
The drive screws that fasten the engine name plate to the manifold are hard. My question is, how do you remove ones that are broken below the surface? I can order a carbide drill but is there another way?
