Generator and regulator
Boat is a '59 18' continental with CC 185 V-8 recently purchased. Among many invoices included was one for a generator rebuild. Amp gauge shows discharge when it should but it is not charging. It is equipped with the typical 3 wire regulator mounted on the stringer. If memory serves back in my teen ...

Re: 283 water pump
Push rod piece retrivved. It was laying harmlessly below the timing chain. No chance of it migrating into the pan or transmission but that gave me a chance to completely evacuate old oil from all components. A regular oil change including pumping the reverse gear still leaves over a quart of dirty o...

Re: 283 water pump
Thanks Jim, so the 6 volt kit I have for the small distributor will work or will I need to order a 6 volt system for the large distributor? I should have mentioned on my 283 I pulled the intake and found two pieces of push rod but still missing about 1/3 of it. I fished around with a magnet through ...

283 water pump
First I would like to thank everyone for helping me with the high speed miss in my 131 hp 18' Riviera. I now agree with the consensus that the Pertronix system is not compatible with the small distributor on six volts. Three times I tuned the engine with points and converted unsuccessfully to Pertro...

Re: High Speed Miss
I am an embarrassed ex mechanic. Got the new trigger wheel from Pertronix and got the same result. Pulled the distr and put the points back in, same result. Now I've eliminated the ignition so go to fuel starting at the tank. The inline fuel filter I installed a few years ago was free flowing when I...

Re: High Speed Miss
Thanks for all your support. Many things are still on the table. I did get an analog volt meter and it shows 6+ volts at the coil not running, 7 volts at idle charging rate of 3-4 amps, 15 amps and 8 volts at 1200 rpm, and at higher speeds the amp meter is pegged and showing 9 volts at the coil. I d...

Re: High Speed Miss
Thanks Jim, that is a good tip on the digital voltmeter. With the gen disconnected, key on, voltage was around 4 and running at idle 6-7 volts. Under load it would only turn 1200 rpm. I also tested with a jumper from the battery to the coil to ensure a 6 volt input with the same result. I am the sec...

Boat is an 18' Riv with KBL. I recently installed a Pertronix pointless ignition on my 6v system including the recommended 1.5 ohm flamethrower coil. Idle is good, acceleration much improve, but ignition breaks up around 3000 rpm. An old timer hearing me on the lake said "your engine is "cross firin...

Pert roux ignition
I am considering installing a pointless ignition on my 1950 18' riviera with a KBL. I hope to set the timing and forget it. These days access to distributor and points is awkward for me. Any recommendations for me?

Banjo horn ring 1950 Riviera
After rebuilding 4-wire banjo and inserting throttle rod, within 2" of wheel, circuit closes and horn honks. Any one have an exploded view or diagram of related parts?
