Re: Oil Filter
Thanks Jim! I have indeed purchased the spin-on conversion kit for the oil filter. The engineer in me needs to know why the original filter won't work!!!! I agree, the spin on will be less messy!!!!

Oil Filter
I'm closing in on the completion of my 40-year restoration for 1959 CC Continental 283 cu. in. I've been unsuccessfully trying to install the cartridge oil filter with canister. I cannot get the 9-3/4" bolt to engage the threads inside the engine. It appears that my "original" bolt may be about 1/4"...

Rule bilge pump wiring
I'm pulling out my hair trying to wire this Rule-Mate 800 GPM Automatic bilge pump. I'm using a Cole-Hersee (Littlefuse) push-pull switch with three positions (part # 831); Off/On/Automatic. The switch has three connectors (screw) on the back and has four letters; A, B, R, and H. The three wires com...

Horn wiring - '59 Continental
1959 Chris-Craft Continental; 18' - There is a wire that runs from the horn relay up to the horn assembly below the horn ring. Does this wire run up through the steering column? There is an eyelet under the horn ring where it attaches. I can't remember if the wire runs outside the steering column or...

Fuel Lines
As I prepare to install the fuel lines in my '59 Continental I'm confused! I've read through all the information on Boat Buzz regarding fuel lines and have decided upon 5/16" copper lines using DOT approved compression fittings! As I read further into the blog, many members say that DOT fittings are...

My '59 18' Continental calls for a 12x16x1 prop (wheel #670). I purchased the boat with a NiBral 1067 12X14x1 with cupped edge. Should I go back to the original or will the NiBral 1067 fit the bill??? All original 283 cu. in. power. Recommendations???? Thanks!

Re: Fuel Pipe sealant
George; My '59 CC Continental has a plastic seal between the gas tank filler neck nut and the gas tank. Check with Classic Boat Connection, they may have one. Also, try "EZ TURN fuel resistant Lubricant." A friend of mine uses this lubricant/sealant on his Piper Archer airplane wherever gas fittings...

HULL CARD - BILGE PUMP
The hull card for my 1959 Continental 18' indicates it came with a PAC-HAND (could be PAR-HAND) bilge pump. Is this a hand pump? Was there an electric bilge pump in the '59's? I purchased my boat in 1984 and it had a bilge discharge but no bilge pump??? Any thoughts??? Thanks

WOW!! Didn't know this was going to generate such excitement!!!! OK, thanks for the replies! I'm going with the horizontal bow vent facing forward; two rear deck vents facing forward (as in the brochure); and the two side vents facing aft. Re: REAR DECK VENTS
The vents are on the rear deck on the port and starboard side. Vents are original with the boat; 1959 CC Continental. They cover a 3" diameter hole that vents out of (or into) the gas tank area of the boat. Vents are located on the horizontal surface. You will notice that this particular picture sho...

REAR DECK VENTS
The brochure (copy) of the 1959/1960 CC Continental 18' receive from the Mariners Museum shows the deck vents (opening) facing the front of the boat. I've seen 50% of the Continentals with the deck vent opening facing aft. My thinking is that the bow vent takes in the fresh air and it exits out the ...

I'm ready to reinstall the entire rudder assembly on my '59 CC Continental 18'. I'm aware of the sealing in the packing nut on the rudder itself. What material do you recommend I use to seal around the two carriage bolts that hold the rudder shaft log?

Several of the veins on my original water pick up scoop are missing or damaged. (1959 Continental 18') I purchased what I thought was an identical scoop; Groco STH-1000-W 1" NPS inside diameter.
