Re: Paragon 25 XE Transmission Question

I have had similar plates cut for automotive clutches and truck clutches. I would not recommend Laser cutting as this tends to harden the cut area and creates distortion due to heat stress. We tend now to water jet cut these as this is a cold abrasive type of cut. For material I would use surface gr...

Re: Older fiberglass hull construction, better or not?

Although not fiberglass, the prior owner of our other boat used Epithanes on the top sides, over fiberglass on the decks, and epoxy primers on the planking. 4 years later, still looks like new. This was sprayed on. The Boat is in salt water year round. Very happy with it, has good UV resistance. Steve

Thermostat for MCL

Having fitted manifolds and original style Holley thermostats to the MCL's in our Constellation, one has failed. Can anybody supply a part number or a supplier.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Hard to start

Steve, these engines when in good condition should start and run well at all times. The biggest thing that I have seen affecting this style of engine recently is the crap that we are being sold as gasoline. I have had 3 different old fire engines in my shop this year already with corroded inlet valv...

Re: 1931 Model 277, Wanderlust

Thanks for the reply. We moved Wanderlust into the workshop last spring after being outside for many years elsewhere. First job was to level and straighten the hull. There has been poor repairs done to the starboard stern area years ago obviously to keep the boat floating. Over the months we straigh...

Re: 1931 Model 277, Wanderlust

Wanderlust has over the last year been moved into the workshop and restoration has begun. Recently I received a photograph of Wanderlust with the original owners onboard. Looking at the flags on the dock, Wanderlust is docked somewhere in Ohio and therefore must be on Lake Erie, or the Ohio River. F...

Re: Classic Chris on Mackinac Island

Looks like it could be Dulcinea, a 1954 53ft Constellation that is listed in the registry. We saw this great boat and tried to purchase 3-4 years ago. Dulcinea was being stored in Mackinac Michigan, maybe now has new owners if this is the same Constellation.

Re: Distributors

It seems I have had a similar issue. Heat may be a common problem with the newer Pertronix distributor conversions. When I purchased our Constellation in 2014, the boat was fitted with Pertronix distributors on the M engines. During the '14 boating season, no issues. While rebuilding the engines las...

This past weekend was the 41st Annual North East Ohio ACBS Boat Show at Portage Lakes, Ohio. So much so that the Judges vo...

Roof Spot light

Can anyone supply info or pictures of the correct roof mounted spotlight as fitted to a 1957 30' Constellation. Not sure if it should be fixed, or electrically moveable at this time. Doug, Wanderlust was last registered in Detroit in 1978. I am currently working thru the paperwork to keep the Documented Ship number, as some Coast Guard records conflict the information. Re: Cockpit floor

Thanks for the comments. As you all know these are not easy boats to maintain and take a lot of time to repair correctly. It has been a solid 18 months of work. Pulled the boat outside for a test of the engines and bilge pumps. Now with the sprinkler on the outside to start some swelling. Joanroy, a...

Re: Cockpit floor

Thanks for the ideas on the roof repairs, that is the same idea that I had, but I wanted to see if anyone had experience with that type of repair. Re: Cockpit floor

Progress has been good over the last months. When we purchased the boat 2 sets of MCL manifolds and carbs were included. Thanks...

Re: Cockpit floor

Joanroy, thanks for the info, the mahogany I have was purchased last winter and was stickered and on a shelf next to the boat. 6 quarter and then band sawed, planned and sanded to finish at 1/2". Therefore both garboard planks are from one piece of wood. Moisture content is 8-10%. I have cleaned out...

The question that I missed above is, when replacing the garboard planks, what is the recommended gaps, if any, for sealer to the keelson and second plank. Planking and boat is very dry after being in the workshop for the last year.

Thanks

Having just removed, resealed the windows on our 1957 30' Constellation, all the pictures I can find look to be the same on the Commander.
