1940 MS Engine

Hello - I have a new to me 1940 Chris Craft MS engine. At idle oil pressure is over 50 when starting. After it warms up it is about 30. But when running at 2000 RPM's it's around 50 again. Is this to high? Normal? I have a K engine in another boat and it runs around 30 so the difference is why I am ...

Re: Generator on Model K

Hello - I ended up having the generator rebuilt. Hopefully the issues with it will solve the problem. Thank you for everyones feedback. BUT...now I need to reinstall the generator. Are there any tricks to getting the belt tight enough? I put the one bolt in that it swivels then pulled up as hard as ...

Re: Generator on Model K

Hi - I am asking again about this because I went through another 3 "cut outs' this summer. All just fried. See picture of one of them attached. Generator was rebuilt when I restored the boat 3 seasons ago. Could I have a wire wrong? The end that burns out is the battery connection. Any idea? Thanks....

Generator on Model K

Hello - On the generator there is a unit that I do not know what you call. It has the point that closes and charges the battery. I have now had my boat in the water for 3 years & every year the unit fails. I can smell the electrical burn out smell when it fails. Can someone tell me what this would b...

Hello - My horn is under the front deck. Can someone tell me how it's wired? Power from the AMP gauge & wire from the horn button on the steering wheel. But there must be something else. Can someone tell me what I am missing? Thank you.

Brian - Thank you. Now that I knew where to look I see the tiny hole on the inside...I can drill that out. Did not know what I was looking for...thanks again.

Re: Spar Varnish versus gasoline

I agree, I don't want to put a hole in the side of the boat if I don't have to. But the gas cap does not have a vent. The new tank I had made has a opening for a vent line. I was trying to think of a way to vent without the hole in the side. Thanks.

Re: Gas Tank Venting

Hello - I have a 1941 Barrel Back (71733) that was build in late November 1940, just before the changes Don mentions below. I am currently finishing a 4 year total restoration. Should I add the gas tank vent the same way Chris Craft did with this change? Or is there another way now that I can do it ...

Re: Caulking Deck Seams

Hello - Thank you for the replies.

I am using 5200. As mentioned below, it helps to start with a new tube. I started with a tube that was almost empty and had trouble with air bubbles. When I opened a new tube I had less problems. Lesson learned.

Thank you.

Re: 1941 17' Barrel Back Wiring

Hello - Thank you for the feedback. I will run it back to the engine block as suggested.

Brian - Do you still stand by the use of the Dupli-Color DE1621 for the engine paint? Found that old post and wanted to double check. Thank you.

Re: 1941 17' Barrel Back Wiring

Same question for the bow light. See picture. 2nd wire comes back from bow light and heads to the port side. Looks like they grounded on the last gauge there...that would be my temp gauge. Does that make sense? Thanks.

Re: 1941 17' Barrel Back Wiring

Hello - I am now in the process of wiring the boat. I am running the power back to the stern light. But don't know where the 2nd wire goes? I assume to ground somewhere. When I took the boat apart I got a picture of the wire returning from the stern light and then heading aft...but then it ended. Do...

Just FYI. NW classic boats said they use Interlux Red Mahogany stain for the ceiling boards & hull. The gentleman I spoke to was very nice to talk with & took time to discuss their process.

Yes, Thank you. That picture helps. I do have that varnished board you mention, I figured that out the other day, it's notched so it can mount at an angle. I will let you know if I need more pictures. Thank you.

Do you use the same color stain for the ceiling boards as you do the hull for a 1941 17' Barrel Back? The ones on my boat are very dark. I am refinishing the whole boat I am looking to know what color they are "suppose" to be? Thank you.

Hello - I am just about finished instilling a new bottom on my 1941 17' barrel back. When I removed the old bottom it had 3 through hull holes in it. Planning Surface 1941 17' Barrel Back

Hello - Does anyone know the length of the planning surface for a 1941 17' Barrel back? Based on my boat when taking it apart I would guess it's up to about the front of the engine. But there was a broken stringer and the engine had pushed the bottom down while sitting on a trailer for many years so...
