Re: 1956 Continental Crash pad details
Thank you, both, for the feedback, especially the pictures. I am most interested in how the rear corners are finished, near the top of the rear seat back. Regarding the vinyl, back in the day, there was no 'marine vinyl' so they just used automotive vinyl. This boat will spend most of it's time in a...

1956 Continental Crash pad details
I am getting ready to finish the interior on my 18' Continental, and since nothing in the interior is original, I need some help. There is a ton of great detail here on the seats, thank you all! As for the crash pad, it looks like there is a welt underneath and hide-em on the top surface, correct? D...

Re: '52 Riviera Bow Light Bulb / Fixture
I think your socket is for an 1157 bulb, like you mentioned, it is an auto stop/turn/tail light bulb. It would let you elect to have a bright and dim option for running in fog! Is anyone getting chastized for using LED lights? It seems that with a weak battery and weak old alternator, it would be a ...

Sounds to me like it was used as a display in the boat show! I wonder if you can find any pictures of the local boat show that have your actual boat in them. That would really be a find!

How well should it track?
I have an 18' '56 Continental and am having the bottom proffessionally done. I am curious if I should be looking at adding any skegs or anything to the bottom to help it track better, but since I haven't driven it yet, or ever driven a classic Chris Craft, I don't know if it is needed. I haven't rea...

Re: Chris Craft and Quality Control
It's amazing what you can learn from a photo like this. At first I thought the bracket on the back was part of the cradle that it sat on, but clearly it is temporary for mounting the transom. You can see the boat in the middle no longer has the bracket, but has patched holes where it was mounted pre...

Re: Inside storage in Michigan
I am lucky in that the local gas dock sells Valvetech marine fuel at a reasonable price. It is all I will use. It already has the stabilizers in it, no ethanol, keeps the internals clean and runs great. I have started using it for my lawn mowers, outboards, snow blowers, etc. pretty much anything ot...

Re: Anchor Light on Mast
make sure that you have power at the connection. You can get a $5 'power pick' at Harbor Freight. It's mostly just a lightbulb, wire, a pick and and aligator clip. Touch the aligator clip and the pick to the terminals and if there is power, the bulb lights up. If there is no power there, you have to...

Re: How to update hull registry?
One thing that would be helpful would be if someone took the boat show registration forms and entered the hull numbers from all the shows. Last year in Tavarres we had more Cobra's in person than we have in the registry. If we can't keep the specialty boats like the cobra's all in there, where do yo...

Re: How to update hull registry?
Is the intent of the boat registry to just capture members boats? Or do we want to collect what info we can on all of the old ones and add it to see how many survive? I know of many boats around in garages and boathouses. I have asked the owners to join the club, but they never want to spend the $$ ...

When you find him, offer $750, I bet he takes it unless he really knows what he has.
Even if he negotiates, I think anything less that $2500 is a great buy if the engine still turns over.

My hull card doesn't list a bottom color, but I am assuming that it would be the same Copper Bronze that yours has?

Re: K Engine stalling ... HELP!
For a quick fix, just buy a cheap electric fuel pump and put it in line with some flex hose and hose clamps to save the weekend.
I have had to do this on old cars and it pumps right thru the old pump, no problems.
Be sure to bypass the ground connection, as you know.

By 1958 all the US engine manufacturers had switched to negative ground. only Joe Lucas {the Prince of Darkness} held out for a few more years on the English vehicles. This reminds me of an old joke for your friends that drive TR6 roadsters and MGB's. Do you know why the Brits drink warm beer? Beca...

Sorry, I just re-read the post. If the circuit breaker is just running to a cut off wire, then heck yeah, you can get rid of it.
Josh, did you confirm which battery cable is connected to the engine block? Is it the + or the -?

Re: Correct Wiring on Ignition Coil
Isn't it possible that they set up a 12v positive ground system? That would explain the coil wiring. As for the circuit breaker, that is a newer component, and is likely protecting something. People don't normally add them unless they had a problem, or were concerned about a potential problem. I wou...

When you do find it, do yourself a favor and put a mark on the flywheel with a scratch awl or some nailpolish. You never know when you will need to find it again someday!

Re: Hard to start when hot
Coils have a tendency to short out when they get hot, drawing down the battery. Try to find out how tight the motor is at hot. If so, it is a mechanical issue, probably to do with the piston rings not being gapped properly as said previously. If it mechanically turns ok when hot, you have an electri...

My 1956 Conti (CL-18-230) was signed by Anthony Dugan as well on May 11, 1956
BSO is E-8061
On the top of my hull card it says Plant: Cadillac.
Don't they all list that?
