Garwood Boat in Movie - Series of Unfortunate Events

Probably not the place to post this. But I just rewatched the 2004 movie A Series of Unfortunate Events. There is a garwood featured in one of the scenes. I swear I remember reading years ago about the guy who loaned the boat for that movie. Also something about how the director didn't like how high...

283 to 327 swap?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I haven't found any definitive answers. I have a 1960 20' sea skiff with a 283. Would swapping to a 327 be that big of a deal? The engine mounts, exhaust ports and wiring must be pretty close to the same correct?

Looking for some hands on help in northern Illinois

I'm redoing the bottom on my 24' 1961 Sportsman. I'm a decent woodworker, but I've gotten to a point where I'm stuck not knowing where to go next. Bottom is off. I've read Danenberg's books front to back and back to front 10x. I'm willing to pay for someone's time to come and spend a couple Saturday...

Re: Silicon Bronze Screws Snapping

#8 screw x 2”. I used the tapered bit per the supplier. I set the countersink a little deeper and that seems to have helped for now.

Silicon Bronze Screws Snapping

I did a few test runs with my taper bit and some SB screws. In the pic you can see the depth I set the bit to. They seem to go in ok without snapping, but as soon as I try and back them out, they snap. This is going into white oak. I believe these are cut thread and not rolled. What am I doing wrong...

Re: Trailer Legs

Your axle should have no problem supporting the weight long term. The tires on the other hand will get deformed. This product looks like it would work fine on gravel.

Open bed/hitch Minneapolis to Chicago

I am traveling from St. Cloud, MN to Rockford, IL this Wednesday, March 29th. I have an open bed and an open trailer hitch if someone needs something hauled. I'm driving a Ram 1500 so I have about 9,000lbs of towing capacity and about 1,500lbs of bed capacity. Let me know if anyone needs anything ha...

24' Sportsman Rudder Size

I have a '61 24' Sportsman. I love the boat, but I notice that it gets super squirrely when crossing wakes at about 45 degrees. Before I get blasted for crossing waves at 45 degrees, I know, I shouldn't do that, but sometimes it's inevitable. I was talking to another 24' owner and he said that the r...

Re: New Hampshire Boat Title/Registration Research

Jim,
Would you consider looking in one of the pre 1992 directories under Alphabetical Boat Builder Listings - Chris Craft - 1961 - Sportsman, and see if any of them are located in New Hampshire? I'll buy you a beer.... :)

Re: New Hampshire Boat Title/Registration Research

That's brilliant. Not sure if it will work, but I'll definitely try! It says it can't force them to do research. I wonder if they'll just give me a dump of all boat registration information they have over the years. It'd probably be easier if they just looked up the hull number. :)

New Hampshire Boat Title/Registration Research

I'm digging to find the ownership history of my boat. I have the hull number. Here is the rundown so far: 1961 24' Chris Craft Sportsman Hull Number: CUA-24-0007C Hull Card says boat was originally delivered to Chicago, IL - Title Search in North Carolina (where I bought the boat) showed me the owne...

Looking to borrow a trailer

I have a guy who bought my 30' connie on ebay and needs to borrow a trailer to haul it from chicago to Maryland. He asked if I knew anyone who would be willing to rent a trailer to him. He would have the trailer brought back after the haul. Anyone interested? The haul would happen before the end of ...

Really lost title

My buddy bought a Lyman from a restoration shop about 5 years ago. They had bought it from a guy who passed away in '93. They have my buddy a title but no bill of sale. He has since lost the title and never had the title changed over to my buddy's name. My buddy then sold the boat to someone and jus...

Need a small amount of Mahogany

I have a '61 24' Sportsman that I'm redoing the hatch on. The wood is shot. I only need some 5/4" mahogany. I need to assemble a 22" diameter circle. Does anyone have some scrap laying around that I could glue up into my porthole? I would pay for shipping and the mahogany. I just don't have any scra...

Small Deck Seam Help

Kind of off topic, but I'm throwing my question out there anyways. I'm building a dartboard case, and I want to put white deck seams in. The seams are only 1/16" wide so that poses a problem for getting caulk in there. I thought about filling a syringe with white paint and just filling the gap, but ...

Re: Replacement gas tank

I was able to get the pickup off with brute force. Everything came off nicely. Unfortunately the bottom of the strainer looks totally fine. I did notice though that my shutoff valve when "open" was blocked by the nut for the fuel line causing my shutoff to be ~10 to 15 degrees from "totally on." I l...

Re: Replacement gas tank

The best bet is to drain the tank, take it out of the boat. Then leave the cap on and the valve turned off to heat the valve. Is an impact wrench ok to use on the fitting? i'd worry that if it's brass or copper that it would snap? Or is an impact wrench better than gorilla'ing an adjustable wrench?

Re: Replacement gas tank

I tried removing the pickup from the top of the tank but I'm worried about snapping it off. It was really stubborn. Any ideas? I'm sure I have that angled pickup. There wasn't any rust in the tank, just what looked like sand.

Re: Replacement gas tank

I have a good fuel filter, but the problem is there is a screen on the bottom of the tank that gets clogged by the stuff in the tank. So my fuel pump is getting starved -> causing engine problems.

Replacement gas tank

I have a '61 24' sportsman. I chased engine problems all summer only to find that it was my gas tank (I know I know. Should have been the first place I looked). Just curious what everyone here does to prep their boat for shows, especially regarding varnish. Any good products that give it a good 1 or 2 day shine? My varnish is in pretty good shape, but would like to polish it up for the show this weekend.
