Re: water pump grease
Per another suggestion I am using Quicksilver 2-4-C Marine Lubricant with PTFE has anyone had any issues with that grease? I've also seen Classic Boat Connection selling Castrol Pyroplex Gold but my research tells me that stuff isnt made any more.

Re: Windshield to deck rubber 1958 CC 17' Ski
Hey Tony- Check this site out, this was the only place I could find the gasket needed for my plexiglass windshield. The owner wasn't easy to get ahold of but I eventually got what I needed.

Re: Fakebook hurting Boat Buzz?
I personally have stopped using boat buzz as frequently as I was for a few reasons. 1. The general decline of folks posting on the forum, it used to be exciting when I could sign on every day and read and see a bunch of relevant stuff to my restoration. I stopped visiting so frequently because peopl...

Re: Hull Construction- wood type
Hi Jim- Thanks for the information, can I ask where you are getting that information from? The wood I pulled off my boat didn't appear to be Ribbon Striped. The only part that did was the engine box. The styling addendum I got from the archives calls out ribbon stripped mahogany on the engine box on...

Re: Hull Construction- wood type
Thank you everyone for your information on this topic! Denny- thanks so much for all your detail, it really helped this past weekend at Homestead Hardwoods. If any of you are within driving distance of Vickery, Ohio, this place is worth the trip. I found the wood I needed for the stringers and the p...

Re: Hull Construction- wood type
Should I coat the stringers and plywood I am replacing with CPES. What about the mahogany pieces I'm using for the frame pieces?
How will this change the color of the stain I use? What integrity does it add to the marine specific okoume plywood sheets I am using?

Thank you all for the input.
I'm thinking I'll use mahogany for the structural pieces.
John- if Fir is risky- what is a safer option. I don't want to replace stringers again.

Yes- factory fiberglass and yes going to replace with resin over mesh like they did at the factory. Probably the main reason I still have a solid bottom, the condition of the wood underneath is unbelievable.

Re: Hull Construction- wood type
Hey Jerry! I am just too much of a perfectionist I guess! I had pretty bad damage on the starboard side, transom was a mess, port side was rotting by the transom and rotting stringers. so I just went for all of it so it will last my lifetime. Only stuff that won't be replaced is the bottom and most ...

I am peeling the skins off my Cavalier and replacing. As I come across other structural members I am replacing them as well. My question is- what kind of wood do I use? I was previously told white oak for interior pieces but I assume that isn't the same for structural pieces? What kind of wood shoul...

Thanks everyone for chiming in! Good info here, regarding the fuel lines this was how I got the boat back after my dad sold it to a friend that had it for years up until last year. The tubes that connect to the air vents on the deck of my 58' Cavalier are all galvanized except for one that is copper. Doesn't really make a difference to me that it is as I'll be restoring them. The two aft vents are seen behind the front seat back. To two vents on the stern deck are hidden behin...

Yes! That is the same conversation I saw on woody boater, so I sent Frank a Facebook message. I am probably just being impatient but didn't hear anything back for a few days so I thought I would reach out to the club.

Who has vermillion stain? I have been back and forth with Sandusky and they need a sample to make it up. I also reached out to the gentleman that prompted the woody boater article referenced and haven't heard back from him. Any help?

Re: My 18' Sportsman hull ID was mis-numbered
My hull I'd is V15-970, this is stamped on my engine box plate and in the keel between the shaft log and the bolts for the strut. But on my bow much like yours the hull id is different and is stamped as V17-970. V"x" denotes the length, mine is a 15' but I always thought it was unique that the bow h...

Re: Original Fiberglass Bottom on Cavalier
Thank you Al and Robert for the information.... I think Al's option is the one to go with, seems like the best compromise. Is the west system Resin the stuff to go with? Would I just shave the existing fiberglass on the hull down to the fabric roughly 5"-6" from the edge then use a 6" wide strip of ...

I haven't had it surveyed but I think it is in really good shape. Everything is solid except for the port side stringer which is starting to show rot. I'm going to use a product to keep the rot from spreading.

Original Fiberglass Bottom on Cavalier
I am restoring a 1958 15' Cavalier Utility- Previously I have posted about the options I have to replace a gnarly crack on the starboard side of the boat....from the wealth of information and opinions I have received I decided to replace both sides, transom and decking. I want this boat to last the ...

Re: My First Wood Chris Craft (1958 15' Cavalier)(K Engine)
I would like to revise an earlier statement I had made that some of the runabout Cavaliers did not have the white band at the rub rail. After more investigation of my boat I have found that it did have white at one point but was changed. Crazy of me to think no one touched the boat from 58'-77'. Tha...

Jim- Thanks a lot for the tip with grinding down the wrench, it made this job super easy. The end cap gasket was original and there wasn't a whole lot left, was a re...

cc-woodboats- thank you very much for taking a look. I was hoping things weren't leaning that way, one thing I was thinking about- shouldn't there be oil or water also leaking if exhaust smoke is getting through? I am not seeing anything except for this faint smoke coming from the flywheel end of th...
