Re: bent skeg

Still out of the water but shaft turns freely. We'll be flpping the boat mid week and reinstalling the motor. will do final check check then. It did bend and twist the cutless both have been "eyeballed" in line. It also pulled the back 2 bolts on the cutless a bit toward the front and that has been ...

Re: bent skeg

I thought I would update this post. I had the blacksmith straighten this out as close as possible. Still didn't fit. Measurements were good but something was off. The long story short is that even as bad as this was bent I am sure that I could have straightened this with a 3# sledge in less time tha...

Re: Motor make

What ever it is it's not the original engine, right? The owner wants to know so he can pass the info on whether he leaves it to his kids or sells it.

Temp fix for varnish?

The motor is rebuilt and bottom of hull will be repainted by the end of the week. The owner wants to get it on the water yet this season but wants some thing done with the top of the bow. Any temp suggestions? I'll be stripping and refinishing this winter.

Thanks

Re: Motor make

The mechanic is sure this is an 80" type motor. Probably a replacement for a blown one.

Motor make

Original sale bill says the motor is a CC. The guy who rebuilt it says its a GM. The owner thinks it should be a Chrysler. Who was the original motor manufacturer for a 57 sea skiff? Thanks

Packing box on drive shaft

This question is in relation to this post - http://www.chris-craft.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9869&p=63123&hilit=packing+box#p63123 - which states the packing box needs to be maintained periodically. The boat I'm working on hasn't been in the water for 16 years. I want to start fresh with th...

bent skeg

First time here. I've started on the restore of a 57 22'er. Luck there is nor rot or planking that needs replaced. The motor is out - fuel tank out and windshield is off. We've flipped it over and starting to strip the hull for new paint. The metal skeg is bent as shown in the pics. My black smith w...
