Says it prevents drying of the wood and protects finish. I know some are against putting anything on to boat varnish But with it not contai...

1939 cc barrelback minor dock damage to wood
Bumped the rear of a dock today in windy conditions parking. Scraped about 2-2 inch sections from the rear of one of my mahogany panels. Took off the varnish down to the wood fibers. Not deep enough for filler I think but drives me nuts looking at it. Guess it needs sanded and revarnished. Any advic...

1965 283 Chevy engine: Generator vs. alternator
Just bought my first antique boat: 1939 cc Barrelback and had it restored. First ride was Saturday and the battery has been dying almost everyday since and needs recharged. We replaced the starter as it was bad and thought that would do the trick. The generator should be charging the battery while r...

Before it goes in the water what do you recommend for cleaning the deck and sides of the boat to clean road grim and see her fully shine. Is car wash concentrate okay and vinegar and water to get rid of the water spots...

Re: How to keep Varnish looking shiny when on the water
Thanks everyone for the advice. It will be at the dockslip on The Weekends then back on the trailer in a garage during the weeks. How about standard furniture spray polish/cleaner to shine it up when on the water?

Re: 1939 Barrelback 19 ft CC with West System Bottom
Thank you for all the sound advice. I have talked to the inspection person quite a few times and he promised me that he would be unbiased. I told him whatever it needs please tell me so I can negotiate with the seller and I would possibly give him the work it needs including touch up varnish and bot...

1939 Barrelback 19 ft CC with West System Bottom
Hello, I am purchasing my first wooden boat next week. It is a 1939 barrelback. A west system was installed in 1995 and the boat has been very well maintained and stored out of the water most of the time. I have been reading a lot about the west system and the 5200 system and have gotten different v...
