Al,
You are correct... I questioned the rep on that point and he assured me that it would be ok in the water...
I guess time will tell...

Bottom Paint Choice
My phone converstion with a rep at Repcolite indicted it would do fine as a bottom paint. A local boat restorer here in my area swears by it also... I believe the important factor is that it is applied correctly with good bottom preperation. http://s1.postimage.org/1vlrck11g/Rumble_B_at_the_Gig.jpg

tech data on oil
I use Cheveron DELO 400. I went to the Chevoron Web page and got the informaiton I published on a previous post. Desiel oil has better properties for our older oil than automotive oil...
My opinion and that of many others I have talked with both in older cars and boats.

ZINK IN OIL
Paul makes a valid point. I have attached the tech data of the Cheveron Delo 400. Both multigrade and straight weights. Please note that the 15-40 grade contains 14.8% zink and the 10,20,30,40 & 50 weights contains 12.7% zink. Any of these choices will protect your engine very well. I use 30 weight ...

ZINK IN OIL
Mark, You did a great job explaining the zink requirements in oil... My addition to the mix is this, not only zink but sulfur makes a difference. The 30 weight Chevron 400 has both sulfur and zink meeting the requirements we need in flat tappet engines. Cheveron 400 multi-weight does not have the ad...

Choosing the correct engine oil
I read a post asking what type of engine oil is best to use in these old engines. While my engine was being rebuilt I did a lot of research and discovered that there is still a good oil out there that has the protection (zink) these engines need. I use Chevron Delo 400... It is designed for diesel a...

VALVE ADJUSTMENT
Thanks Jim for your advice. I already have the back of the seat removable with a latch that holds it in place. I have considered laying down a plywood floor around that side of the engine...By removing the carb and intake & exhaust manifolds along with the head I will have access to the two valve co...

VALVE ADJUSTMENT
A simple question... I have a 18" Riveria with the KLC engine. There is little to no room around the engine... How does somone adjust the valves without pulling the engine out of the boat? I am not small enough or limber enought to contort into a pretzel... Advice would be appreciated... I have all ...

Thanks for providing me with your advice on this matter of caulking seams... The general concensus is use slick seam, repaint the bottom afterwords and soak the heck out of it... Caulking bottom planks
So much good information... I am no soooo confused! I known I need a caulk that will stay soft and plyable that will squeeze out when the planks swell... Question, with Slick Seam being waxey, do I paint the bottom first then apply it? Will the paint stick to it? I will have the boat on a trailer mo...

Bottom Paint Choice
I have a 1950 Riv... Sanded the bottom down to the wood... I had a choice of using either Interlux or Petite hard racing bronze... Per the advice of a local boat builder he suggested that I use a special paint made by RepcoLite. I found that RepcoLite sold paint to Chris Craft for many years. This p...

Thanks for the information you both provided... I am going to use the life caulk and see what happens. I've noted that some planks under the transom area are begining to buckle... Caulking bottom planks
I know CC did not caulk the planks. I have a boat that already had the bottom caulked. I sanded down the bottom to repaint and found that somone has already caulked the bottom. The old caulking needs to be replaced. What is the "best" caulk to use that will stay plyable and move with the expansion o...

In my 18 ft Riviera (KLC) I disconnect the shaft from the transmission when I run the boat for any length of time on the trailer to prevent the shaft from running dry. k engine oil
I've done a lot of rersearch on the correct oil to use in the K model... Here is what I found. All your automotive oils have removed the zink and sulfur needed to protect the flat tappet lifters of the K engine. Only diesel oil has the proper amount of zink and sulfer to protect those parts. After r...

Yup, it is ready for a new bottom but I am on a two year waiting list to get it done. In the mean time I will continue to us the boat. I've also wondered where the original one went. Just went through a KLC rebuild and what a time I had with both the engine rebuilder and the guy who attached the external engine parts including the distributer. Bilge siphon tube
I recently had one installed on my 18 foot Riv because while on a plane, water would run back to the shaft coupler and fling the water around inside the compartment. Does anyone know if it is possible to set the timing/distributor 180 degrees out of time and have it still run? RAZZ, That's what we ended up doing to put the distrubitor back in after the rebuild... What turned out being the biggest problem was determining which end of the engine had the #1 cyl. DONE! We got the engine running. More trial and error than good mechanical skills!
Wow! If I ever need to pull the head I will be sure to put a mark on the flywheel for TDC and install a pointer for future reference.
Thanks for all the advice and help!
