Re: Recommended KBL Engine Oil
So, here is a question then. Was it because of better oil, or a change in engine design? Its fair to say that a pre war engine would have been a tad more loose? I ask this because is todays 30 wt the same as 1945's 30 Weight? I smell a story here.

Re: Recommended KBL Engine Oil
I have some engines that call for 40 and then some 30. Its on the tag on your manafold. Factory tells you! I use Rotiel by Shell. Its great. But since there are no Oil filters, I change twice a year regardless.

Re: Trading Dock
The trading dock for some bizar reason costs a crap load of money to host. And no traffic to it, or uses it. We have the same issue on Woody Boater Classified. Its there, and doesnt cost much for us. But useless. I agree to take it down. Clean up all the loose ends. As to facebook, I also agree, but...

Re: Z Spar or Epifanes Varnish?
This is a personal preferance thing. The katzs Marina finish which is amazing, is Pettit. I have used all of them, and Captains fits me best. But thats me. You need to try them all. You will know when its right. Like running shoes. They wont make you faster or run farther.

Re: Water pump
Hi Jake, mine leak a tad. but a rebuild aint no big thing, and worth doing over the winter. Not worth the risk. You can get kits and do it yourself. Or send to get rebuilt.

Re: Recommendations for Critical Tools in your Onboard Tool Kit?
THis may sound nuts. But I have found that I use the tool kit that the boat came with. The folks at Chris Craft knew what would happen. HAMMER and a screw driver have been the number one tools used. in your case dont need a philips head. I do carry a set of sockets, but never used them, maybe pullin...

Re: bottom paint finishing
Its common on a mirror finish to sand between coats. One way to go to to sand like said in previous comments, and then roll and tip. Sand again with like 2000 grit. And then buff with finess by 3M. It will get the shine back after the sanding. Its simple if you think of it in grits. 220 is for set u...

Another way to tell is sometimes there is a little resedue under the frames that squeezes out. I would say that if the bottom had been done it would have been a huge selling point

Re: Hull Construction
At some point, and others can chime in, Chris Craft did Plywood inner hulls. My 1960 was that way. And I have seen others. I would assume it was earlier. I will add its better than the plank system and less soaking

And too get Super GEEKY, I would find out who made them. The screw part my be unique to the period, and some have a small stamp in them. Details make a difference.

From what I recall, yes. Also are easier to use. The big question is. Are you doing a show boat? Part of the fun for sure is making sure its the way it was delivered. Sounds like you have a 17, I think there are some unique details about the interior, and other cool stuff.

Re: 95 K Oil Leak
I am no mechanic. Just a designer, so take with that in mind. I would say a couple drops is kinda normal. But sounds like a seal. I have found that over time these engines kinda get loose nuts. Might be a good idea to just go around and check those. Oil comes out of all sorts of places. I would call...

I would post a photo, also with carb numbers. Even if it says the KL comes with a certain carb, yours could be others. Stuff like this was changed all the time. Call Dave VanNess and VanNess Engeneering, he sells the kits and will help you diagnose which kit you need.

Re: Repower or rebuild
This is one of those questions that like a loop. There is no right answer for all. Just for you. I assume the real question is MORE POWER. A K is a very reliable engine. Also, the paragon transmission is really the hero. Makes driving a pleasure and docking. You will miss that big time. But the extr...

Depending on your boat? What year, style? What did it come with? The K engine had lots of evolution like Don said. I also in 1937 have an H the pre-curser to the K. 75HP. Slight differences. The later models are more refined. L stands for long stroke and is usually associated with more performance. ...

Go to the Home page of the CCABC, in the nav bar you will see RESEARCH, That will open a tab, ARCHIVE. Or just click here. Its a little wonky so sometimes you may want to seach a two word term with "Quotes" https://chris-craft.org/historic-archive/
