Great video! Should really give the owner/restorer some confidence to tackle major procedures. Great sense of humor!

Re: Proper Boat Lift
IMG_0299.JPG Here is what everybody on our lake uses. It is just a steel cradle with two bunks running fore and aft. The standard has just a 2x8 on edge but i have added a flat 2x4 on the top to give a wider surface. There is a cable at each corner running through a piece of PVC then over a pulley ...

Re: Antique & Classic Boat Wiki
My understanding is that the club shut down the wiki because it was being totally over run by hackers. I had no idea you could get to the site by the way shown above. If you look at "recent activity" on that site you can see the problem. Part of the plan for the new CCABC website will be to try to d...

Bow Chock Orientation
I was taking the hardware off my boat in preparation for fresh varnish. I got to looking at the bow chocks and noticed there is a left and a right. There must be a correct way to re-install but which is the correct way? A or B?

Re: Chris-Craft decals under the varnish
I would apply nearly all the coats before placing the decals. The varnish should be smooth. Each coat that you put over the decal will yellow the white part of the script. Personally I like that vintage look but some may want the lettering as white as possible.

Re: Painting a 1958 Plywood Cavalier
I like Interlux Pre-Kote. Very heavy bodied primer which will fill some rough spots and sand easily. I don't know about spraying because that might defeat the purpose of thickness. It is white and what I have used on my Red and White.

I just rebuilt my steering gear. Now what do I put in it? The auto parts store sold me 80/90 weight gear lube. I was thinking it should be more of a grease. What would be the best?

Re: Red and White Hull Restoration
My boat has never been in the water longer than a week. It is normally on a lift. I like the two layers of plywood with 5200 in between. Minimal expansion or shrinkage. With good quality 1088 plywood sealed with CPES to lessen water penetration I think it could be left in for awhile. So many differe...

Re: Red and White Hull Restoration
I had a new bottom put on my Red and White at antiqueboatshop.com There are a ton of pictures showing the tear down and reassembly with two layers of plywood with 5200 in between. Look under recent projects and scroll down to 1946 Red and White. Slight error as mine is a 1940 not 1946.

Re: Red and White Hull Restoration
Typically glass for abrasion resistance would be on the outside of the hull. There really is no abrasion between the back of the planks and the plywood. Glassing the plywood in the forward sections where you have to run the ply in diagonal strips might help stop potential leaks between the strips bu...

Please let me know how your Schooner looks out of the can. After using Schooner for 30 years, the last few cans I have opened have been very black rather than amber. Probably not an issue on stained mahogany but on a Riviera with blond wood, or in my case a Century Seamaid with lots of brand new exp...

Re: How to get the thinner topside veneer off
I would think that if it strong enough to hold the step pads and your weight it would have to be 3/8" at least. I would think that replacing the entire covering board (official term!) would be a relatively simple process. As in most boar repairs, disassembly is harder than making the new piece. One ...

Re: How to get the thinner topside veneer off
You don't say how big or what model boat you have but typically the plywood is screwed down and putty covers the shallow countersunk hole. If it is also glued that is a bigger problem and will require a chisel or router. Pictures?
