thanks for the compliment and the pix. The panel wasnt a very substantial deal, was it? My boat is a 17' deluxe. This model was from 37 to 39. These 17s did not have a door on the glove box. also did not have side pockets in the back cockpit. Crash padding also more modest. Those were the main cosme...

I have pieces of my original upholstery, (1938 deluxe runabout), the dark maroon spanish grain russaloid, used on among other things, the '37-39 deluxe runabouts, if you want to see one. It was a precursor to naugahyde. THe closest thing to it in appearance is the dark red leather carried by macataw...

Thanks, Al, that is all very interesting. I am wondering if you know when s-w started making that panel and what all it went into? I have an email into the willys club to see what they know about the use of the panel in the willys car. Do we know whether any other boat mfg's used it? I gather the la...

I am sure cc got the panels from the same people willys did. Perhaps we can ask someone like instrument restorer mark clawson if he knows. I will email him and ask him to contribute to this thread. I am attaching a picture of my '38 deluxe panel. This was used for the '37 -39 models. Note there is a...

This is interesting, thanks, and maybe bill can start a separate thread here. This is the same as on the 1937 to 1939 17' deluxe runabout, which had all stewart warner gages, I believe. In 1940 the deluxe went to the separate instruments inserted into the dash, which was accompanied by the design ch...

thanks for the note. do you have a picture of that old dash? I am familiar with the later instrument panels on the 17 and 19 foot runabouts. they were the same at least in 1938, but wonder about the instruments in the earlier customs. If you have something maybe we can start another thread on these ...

I hope we are not going to let this die. I think there are two areas where we can use more info. One, can we account for the black wheel with or without the groove or ridge? which is correct for when? Second, Do we know anything about the impetus for the banjo steering wheel, and how it relates to t...

be sure to check out macatawa boat works for their fabulous leather, and they are also a good source for the original type horse hair padding that is part of the seats, too.

I think Don Ayers is the expert again here. But I will enclose a picture of the seat of my '38 deluxe runabout which will give you the idea of how the springs are constructed. Don has completely documented the seats by photographing an original as it is being taken apart. http://www.postimage.org/gx...

Thanks, no I dont have one but probably would install one if I found a good 6 volt arrangement. There is another thread that occurred about 6 months ago or so in the buzz about 2 vents or 4 vents. I think it was around mid 1941 that the coast guard required 4 vents on all these boats and prohibited ...

well, as Al says at the end of the first page of this thread, some do and some don't open the hatch before starting, but I think it is only prudent to do so. If there is any gas leaking, odds are you might smell it with it open; and in any event, less likely to blow the boat up.

all good suggestions. I dont know who at acbs is responsible for planning these things but a note to dick werner would no doubt find its way to the appropriate person. We are always discovering new things about what is correct and there are new techniques to learn.

Does anyone have any history on the design and the selection of this particular windshield style by cc. Did any other boat mfg. use anything like this? I guess that earlier cc had the one piece flat windshield that could be "opened". Wonder how this one came about?
