Re: Hull Year vs year on boat title
Jim G is right. remember we are focusing on model year, not production date, for the purpose of accurately identifying the boat. Even within a series that runs for several years, there are often changes (generally somewhat subtle, but not always) from one model year to the next within the same series.

Re: K Series model differences
here is what i know based on research on the 1937-39 cc deluxe runabout. in 1937 they offered the K series engine, and it was billed as 85 hp. in '38 they did a KA (aluminium head) at 95 h.p. . For 1939 the standard K was available at a stated hp of 95. So it appears that from at least '39 on it is ...

North Woody, this is great. Please don't forget the club archive that has a wealth of material like old sales brochures, engine manuals, etc. that also contain useful information.

Re: Inside storage in Michigan
i know of a situation where a guy had a thermostatically heated garage (bad enough) for his boat storage. during the winter the
thermostat malfunctioned and the boat baked all winter and ruined the wood. so it can happen.

Re: Newbie Looking for Chris Craft Services in Northern Wisconsin
thanks. However, one needs to understand that although the fellow who wrote that book, jerry conrad, formerly worked at the museum, it is not a "bible" and there are a number of errors in it. Yes, many generally refer to this series as the "custom"; however, if one looks at the sales materials here ...

Re: Inside storage in Michigan
answer no. 3 is correct. if you can remove loose seating, etc. to promote air circulation inside the boat, that is great too. leaving the cover on is not a problem. bilge should be dry for storage. Steve can winterize for you or advise you of the things to do.

Re: Newbie Looking for Chris Craft Services in Northern Wisconsin
Great looking boat, North Woody. there are those of us who feel that boats in this period (mid 30's, prior to torpedo styling) represent the height of classic wood boat design, with the natural color mahogany decks with narrow strips of wood, pointed bow, almost vertical stem, slightly crowned decks...

reinstallation can be a challenge. for others reading this, best advice is to photograph everything before removal.

Re: 1965 283 Chevy engine: Generator vs. alternator
mark, if your gauges are correct they should show whether the generator is charging the battery. there is a cut off switch, so if you are merely idling along, the battery wont be charging. If you have a good battery, the generator is working properly, and you dont have any electrical drains somewher...

Re: 18' Riviera
Good question, speed demon. a lot of people struggle with this. First off, there are a lot of factors to consider in deciding what you might want to do to the boat, but creating a lot of value is problematic. Most important is what you want to accomplish with the boat, and what resources you are pre...

Re: Fire extinguisher
There was this fellow Dan Sakas, who restored and sold them. wrote a great article about the different, mainly pyrene, fire extinguishers used in prewar days. It would have appeared in the Brass Bell about 12 years ago or so. Try searching for it in the archives. I believe there was an overlap of mo...

Yes, macatawa's "pigskin" is about as close as one can get to the original. Not inexpensive, however.be prepared for that.

Re: 1941 C/C buckskin vinyl
Bill, i just checked the cabin interior section of the buzz and there are extensive discussions there. Might want to peruse all of that, including the one titled "Russaloid?" Good luck. I definitely suggest you find an original (ideally out of the sun) part of the original pigskin to use to match an...

Re: 1941 C/C buckskin vinyl
Generally speaking, i think the '40 had the pigskin russaloid, while the 41-42 had the aquamarine. (Do you have your hull card?) For a long time, the pre-war russaloid was not available, so people tended to use leather of the corresponding color if they wanted the correct look. I think i read somewh...

Re: 1957 Chris Craft Sedan
congratulations and welcome to the buzz. I am sure you will find it most helpful. According to Jerry Conrad's book, Chris craft, the essential guide, there are 2 1957 24' "sedan" models, if you will. one is the semi-enclosed cruiser, with serial numbers starting at SE-24-001 and following, and the o...

One of the last ones i remember being restored was Paul Harrison's, which i think was sold? "Over the top".

good points. My thought was that the main issue is to go to non-ethanol. Unfortunately, as I noted, it usually only comes with a higher octane rating. this may not be "needed" and of course costs more, but getting away from ethanol is the main benefit.

I believe it is the "packard" rubber, with the five or so narrow ribs close together, with intervening spaces between the sets of ribs.. dont have a picture handy but can get one if you need it.
