Re: interlux 2000e epoxy primer
Is it possible that this is an adhesion issue where the paint is not sticking to the material in the seams and presenting as a "movement" issue? Good photos might be helpful.

Re: battery
If you're worried about point deduction then don't convert. If not, then get a battery with the highest CCA that fits your battery box and go boating. At some point I believe ACBS rules will adjust and minimize 12 volt conversions on safety grounds. I thought about cutting up a 6 volt battery and ov...

Pretty sure E10 "regular" will clean things up just fine....maybe too fine, especially carbon. IMHO higher octane does nothing if not required by engine spec. If you're stuck with Ethanol, remember your "Startron" or equivalent and good water separator.

Re: 1939 Barrelback 19 ft CC with West System Bottom
I would determine if it is a true "West System" (plywood laminate as opposed to plank on frame applied with epoxy). West System done properly by the "book" is ok, but the term is often used to describe any construction method using West Epoxy (or any epoxy for that matter). The same can be said for ...

You should not run any part of your exhaust system higher than manifold outlets to avoid back drain or surge into exhaust ports.

Re: 1957-58 18' Holiday.
I can recall more than one instance where we found parts in one boat belonging to different hull number(s) of the same model boat(s), including an engine. In comparing notes with the other owners and other contacts we discovered all had a common denominator. All the boats had been either owned by th...

My early "autographed" version of the "Guide" also calls out Copper Bronze as the bottom color. I agree that graphite and gold are correct, however, based on the originals I have seen. Hard Racing Gold was available off the shelf by multiple suppliers as I recall and was used on more applications th...

Give her a shot of starting fluid. If she fires and won't keep running then fuel delivery is the issue. if won't fire then re-check ignition.

Re: Lifting rings for 23 Lancer/Commander
Can't say for sure if factory available but we never had lift rings on Lancers. By that time few glass boats had traditional style deck lift rings. We installed a lot of them though. There were and likely still are components available for the bow set up. If not already there, a heavy duty dual shan...

Place a spacer between the end of the prop shaft and the end of the transmission output shaft. Re-couple to the transmission and carefully and evenly retighten the coupler bolts and push the shaft out .

Your boat must have a very interesting story given the "modifications" and I would enjoy hearing the story/history if you know it.

Hull colors varied and typically were tied to interior color. I'm fairly certain there were no "bronze" hull sides, only bottom and deck stripe on early models. To my recollection hull sides typically white with color on bottom and graphics and upholstery.

Re: Waterproof Paint?
In my experience the epoxy is OK for occasional / short term immersion when the boat is out of water when not in use. Longest I can recall is about 9 days in the water with no issues. I personally think it is more resistant than mfg will admit or guarantee. Technically speaking, gelcoat is not water...

Re: 1941 17' Barrel Back Wiring
I don't think "rubber insert" cutlass bearings were std early on. A bronze strut bearing would allow for a good ground. I don't know when they became standard , I just remember seeing them specified (to be installed) on the hull card suggesting they were not standard. I also remember changing them o...

Re: CC Riviera Water Ski Tow Rope Hook-Up?
You can probably get along fine using the lift ring. That's what everyone did back in the day when skiers were on two big fat skis or an aquaplane providing minimal drag. I would be a little more concerned about wake boarding, aggressive slalom and tubing. Some mechanical reinforcement under the dec...

I think the 19's had leather as standard unless ordered special. You might want to check around.. the maroon leather and vinyl might be out there already. I think it was called Spanish maroon but I'm not sure. Someone will chime in and confirm I'm sure. I always felt the 19s best epitomized the torp...

Re: Prewar master parts 1936 t0 42
1940-41 Material Specs for 23 and 27 custom both call for a mix of genuine and imitation leather. 27 calls for significantly more suggesting that the upholstered ceilings may have been covered with it. We found the storage pocket liners in a very original 23 to be imitation. I would speculate that i...

Re: 1939 19ft CC barrel
My only reference documentation is 1940-1941 23 and 27 footers. Both show copper and steel. The ratio of steel to copper increases significantly from the smaller to larger boats. In this case the 23 used 25% steel where the 27 called for 42% steel vs. copper. I've seen steel in hidem and crash pad a...
