Remove the pitman arm at the steering column gear. It is usually splined and tapered, so a tap with a hammer, after removing the large nut, should do it. Turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock, counting the total rotations. Divide that number by two, and turn the wheel that number, from either side, u...

You have stumbled upon the best Antique and Classic boat show in the country. The site of the first Chris-Craft dealership. The Les Cheneaux Islands are the main reason that most wooden runabouts like Hacker, Gar Wood, Chris-Craft, Century, etc., were built in Michigan. Aside from the 150+ boats in ...

Gee, I don't know, that's the earliest bullitin I have, from the Cadillac plant.

My 1938, 35ft CC double stateroom cruiser (twin K) has them, complete with the brass plates.

That's correct, to avoid 'squatting' as you say. In some low-power situations (even some 17-footers with 4-cyl), they built in those athwartships wedge planks just to help the boat get up on plane. A friend has a 25ft CC Express Cruiser that came with a K. The factory wedges are actual athwartships ...

Very often, extended storage of these decades-old wooden boats, especially when on factory shipping cradles, leaves the planing surface hogged, or slightly rounded, due to engine weight (or just old, wet wood with a snow-load in the bilge). The boat rides up on this rounded planing surface, gets too...

Bill, Which plant is that? Mark is showing an Oak transom bow, probably prewar, most likely Algonac. These, in my experience, were cut from wider stock, showing much short grain, where they usually failed. The boats I've worked on from the Cadillac plant were postwar, Mahogany, and steam bent, showi...

DonA, Please coordinate this. I have nine (9), 19-barrelback bends booked (Mike Lang said two, he almost bought the African, zinc, version). I am awaiting answers from others. We need to consider 2-1/2" if possible. There are many K's out there, including my KA. I know, another setup charge; But may...

Phil, You da man! If your .050" x 2-3/4" (old-stock of the inexpensive drain material that Chris-Craft used) is correct; I can add 4 to 8 to your list. Other bending options occur, though I have heard naught but the best about Romulus, as follows: Dave, The bending is easier than finding the right s...

Try RepcoLite Paints in Holland, MI. 616-396-5213

They supplied the Holland CC plant with many interior coatings and have a number of original formulas for CC bilge paints.

In the later '90's and into the 21st Century, I spent many hours every night on the CCABC forum. I have many gigabytes saved on disc. If the factory operated on a marketing strategy of a "six-year-turnaround", and marinas replaced bottom canvas and compound on a ten-year schedule;

How do you come to the fear that your 50-year-old boats bottom might even just, 'may be fine'?

That is the part that confuses me.

Kerry, We began steambending the planking on a 1946, 20' Custom last week. After that for a 1956 20' Continental. Today we bent on fore and aft strakes 1,3, &5, on a 1941 19' CC Custom. Tomorrow we remove those and bend on F&A strakes 2&4. After that, the planking cut for the 1941 17' Deluxe can fit...
