How to trace ownership?
I'm just curious..... My 58 Cavalier was purchased originally from an Atlanta area dealer. When I bought the boat last year, it was still located in Atlanta and of course I know who owned it at the time. My question is to see if there is any practical way to trace the ownership between the time it w...

Re: throttle tube with horn wire
Thanks. I soaked it with penetrating oil and still no luck. I think there might be a key down in that slot. Either way I'm sure I didn't have the correct tools.

Re: 1958 Cavalier Bottom Paint Color
I can't seem to get an answer to this one. I am using the 1959 Pettit Racing Bronze bottom paint. The literature doesn't say you have to sand between coats and the guy at Jamestown didn't sound so sure of his answer, but he did say you should.
Any comments????

Yep Doug, there are a ton of blue ones around...... believe me, I looked high and low for an ratty looking light that I could take the green lens from, but they were all blue..... every last one of them.

Re: throttle tube with horn wire
Not to be a downer, but even with the tube removed I never could get the steering wheel off so I couldn't properly restore my steering wheel. I am attaching some pictures of what mine looked like (58 Cavalier) just in case that might help anything.

Re: In search of a replacement bow light lens/ Attwood 9000-
Thanks Doug....... I'm not sure the market will bear the cost plus mark up, but I'll probably put it out there on eBay...... I have yet to find a green lens for the 9000 series of these lights. They all have blue.

Re: In search of a replacement bow light lens/ Attwood 9000-
OK, here is the good news, bad news. Good news is after two tries to make a rubber mold, I finally succeeded and the casted acrylic lens looks great. Bad news as you can see is that I mixed too much green tint into the acrylic and somehow in the mixture of the two part epoxy acrylic mixing it tuned ...

Re: 1958 Cavalier Bottom Paint Color
Thanks Doug. That is what I thought but this red is definantly the original color from the factory. I uncovered it in numerous places across the entire bottom and in some places I even sanded down to the wood and there was no bronze under the red. It's for sure a 58 model according to the Maritime M...

1958 Cavalier Bottom Paint Color
I am about to paint my boat. I've repaired all of the rotted wood, etc. and smoothed it out with about 7 coats of primer. The bottom has been repainted gray at some point in time. As I sanded it out today in preparation for the bronze/copper bottom paint I got into the original paint which was Red. ...

OK, here is the mold I just made. Pretty much flawless in the details of the lens. Next step is to tint some UV resistant acrylic with green die and hope it casts out without any major bubbles in the mold. Wish me luck...........

Re: In search of a replacement bow light lens/ Attwood 9000-
Thanks Greg..... you are right that this style light is not correct for my boat. It is however from the time period that my boat is from. I just thought it looked good and the price was right considering the condition. I am attaching a link to the eBay add for the red lens and it shows the dimension...

I know Doug, but this is an NOS in mint condition. I've searched and there are very few of these around...... none in this condition. I even searched for a beat up one with a green lens I could use, but to no avail.

Re: In search of a replacement bow light lens/ Attwood 9000-
OK, I got another more formal response from the GA Dept of Wildlife: "The light emitted must be green for legal use. Reading unverified information online, many have suggested that older heavy duty bulbs from the 50's put out a yellowish cast, and that seen through a blue lens, the blow light emitte...

Re: In search of a replacement bow light lens/ Attwood 9000-
I was sitting around last night about 10PM and decided to email the GA Parks and Wildlife division through their website about the lens color. I told them this was a vintage boat and the bow light was the type and color used during that time period. Surprisingly I got an answer back about 11 PM. How...

Re: Wet sand Interlux Interprime Primer???
Just an FYI, Hillary on chat at Jamestown Distributers says it's OK to wet sand so long as you give it time to dry well before the next coat. I'm really not convinced after doing it that wet sanding did any better than just using a dry sanding sponge, it just gets the build up off the sponge easier ...

Re: Wet sand Interlux Interprime Primer???
Thank Brian. I guess I' getting frustrated that with so many coats after I sand for the next one, it just keeps showing grain, etc on each successive coat. It's as if it looks much better before I sand it. I have been using 120 but now I am using mostly 220. I take it from what you are saying that t...

Wet sand Interlux Interprime Primer???
I am on my 5th coat of primer over mostly plywood (some old repairs with unknown substance and some Marine Tex and fairing material I used). I used several coats of Interlux sealer prior to the primer. Even though most of the grain is now covered I am still having problems smoothing out the surface ...

How do I hang this ladder
I just bought this ladder (yes I know it is made for a larger boat). Can someone tell me how to mount it to the boat. I think you use the hooks shown below. If so, do the hooks go on top of the transom in a horizontal position or on the face of the transom in a vertical position?

What do you think?
Just came in the mail. DEFINATELY Blue and evidently never on a boat before. He even sent a replacement lens, but also blue. This was a great find for $90...... essentially NOS without the box. What do you think?

Re: In search of a replacement bow light lens/ Attwood 9000-
I pretty much consider it a challenge at this point.......... I have already researched the process and materials I would need to cast and pour an exact copy in green. Knowing me, I'll spend more fabricating the lens than I did on the light itself.
