Re: First time Chris Craft owner
Sorry Jim, I forgot to mention... the magic rag only works if you boat in the magic, blue waters of Michigan. If you live outside of Michigan, the magic rag is useless. If you boat in the Fox River or Chain-O-Lakes I suggest you wipe the boat down with mixture of kerosene, bleach and sand. Apply wit...

Re: First time Chris Craft owner
Welcome! Great looking U-18. I have the 1952 version. I like to use a product called the "Absorber", it's a synthetic drying towel/chamois. The trick is to wipe the boat down while it's still wet with lake water. Go for ride, pull into dock and quickly wipe it down. Takes only a few minutes and keep...

Re: Fuel Filter/Cannister?
Looks to be all there. K engine? If so, there would have been no filter. The wire hanging below the pump on the right is the manual primer. The glass bowl on the left is your "crude" filter, for catching sediment in the fuel. Just check to make sure the diaphram in your pump is in good shape. If not...

BRASS BELL Wins Big!!!
Earlier this year, Bill Baldwin and the club's design team at Catalyst Communications entered The Brass Bell into an international competition for the 2015 Communicator Awards. The Brass Bell won an Award of Excellence in the non-profit magazine category which is the top award! There were over 6,000...

I just used JR Custom Plating for 32 pieces of chrome and I'm very pleased. Fantastic work, sensible turnaround, and reasonably priced. I will use them again. Their attention to the pot metal pieces was outstanding.

Bill Basler / Auto Accident
For those of you that haven't heard, or do not visit our club Facebook page. Our past club president, Bill Basler was involved in a tragic auto accident. Our friends at WoodyBoater were nice enough to allow me to share the link to their story. My thoughts go out to him and his family as he recovers ...

Poor girl, she does look a bit rough.
I hope somebody who has what it takes to save her will rise to the challenge. I love everything about my U-18. It's a great handling boat, it's easy to trailer, and has the best lines (IMHO) of the entire Sportsman line-up.

Re: Hull card mystery
I owned SK-18-319 briefly in 2005. It was listed as a 1956 on the hull card. The hand-written '54 must have been an error.
Mine came with a factory installed toilet (Atwood) under the front bench. Danenberg now has the toilet (not the boat).

It's possible your dad's boat was built in 1954 but not shipped to the buyer until 1956. I believe "BOS" is Build Order Sheet.

Howdy Troy. I found this link to be helpful. I'm one of those who thought "fresh" and "raw" water cooling systems were one in the same.

Welcome Lowkey, U22s are fantastic boats and you're sure to enjoy it. As for the bottom, you might might want to post some pictures of the bottom so others can chime in with words of advice. Your original bottom would have been double-planked. If your current bottom is in need of extensive repair, y...

There are 2 wires running through the pole. 1) Soldered connection to the pole (pink circle) 2) Soldered to the center of the brass tube (terminal) The green circle is where a plastic pin that passes through the pole and the center terminal, locking the pieces together. You will need to heat the sol...

Re: Early Glass CC Runabout
I should have given you a few more options. I believe there are quite a few CC models that ARE/WILL continue to grow in popularity: Last week I failed to make an offer on a project 70' XK19. I called the seller the next morning and he sold the boat for $850 to another buyer. 69- 70 Ski Boat 77-79 Su...

I removed the generator and clamped the pulled in my bench vise (wood jaws). Only because I couldn't think of anything better at the time. Can you you get an oil filter/strap wrench around the pulley?

Looks like something they came up with at the factory - with the staples holding it all together.
If you're going after originality, it should be pretty easy to replicate. If not, just go with the modern, thermal acoustic lining stuff designed for the same purpose.

Google "Fabric Heat Shrink Tubing". Looks like there are some great products out there. Remove the terminal, slide some heat shrink tubing on there, solder a new terminal on there and, voila!
This fabric stuff looks pretty slick.
