YOU DIDNT RESTORE THAT BOAT Awards are nice to have....but to me the only awards that count are the ones where the owner, (his or herself) have in fact done much of the work on their boat. Those who have the big bucks and send their boat to a restoration shop do not deserve to have the awards. Other...

There's tons of them in Northern California. Define "tons"........! Only 17 listed in the ACBS directory, probably fewer than 2x that remaining. The only boat the Furth family retained, out of 80+ in the collection, a 27' triple-cockpit. James if each boat weighed 2,000 lbs....would not that be ton...

Re: Bumpers support for 20' Custom fold down window.
I am searching for information on where I can buy the rubber bumbers which are on the deck to support the windshield is in the fold down flat position. I am told I need a small, dome shaped black rubber bumper with a brass tack extending from the bottom side. I have check my local hardware store an...

I am not a great fan of ACBS, although I joined it many moons ago.....but in saying this,- Dick Werner from ACBS is looking to hold physical symposiums around the country to inform ACBS as to boat restoration. We have many VERY knowlegeable people on the list. I suggest whether we are boat owners, r...

Old Trick...Reducing edge varnish flaking
With painted hulls on wooden Grand Banks, to reduce cracking between planks, we would draw an exacto blade between the planks and very thinly "slit" the paint. This also works and reduces the edge flaking of the varnished planks with fluctuating humidities. and decreases the entry of water under the...

http://s12.postimage.org/tf5y6tfhl/Trailer_006.jpg No need for a winch. This from the 1950's. Made to carry a 17' Custom. Note the pistons and the "high/low" on wheels. Trailer lowers and leaves boat on the surface and when retrieved, the trailer is positioned under and raises the cradles to the bo...

Steve; Please share more. Where are they built? How did they know how to build for the shape of the bottom? Where to put the axle for CG? Thanks as i am looking to build a custom trailer for my boat but have no one local. Also is that a tube construction show rather than a "C" channel? How about Ro...

I'm not a cruiser guy but fish from a 22' boat in the inner coastal. Tides run strongly, passing boats raise chop and long rodes are not practical. Dragging an anchor through the fragile bottom is just plain thoughtless, damaging the grasses etc. Ten feet of heavy chain is very helpful. As noted th...

With your new anchor line mark off every foot with a tag so you can count the feet as you let it out. The winless will let it our so quickly it's hard to know how many feet you let out without some type of marking. Good reminder, You can paint the chain with different colors, tags are available to ...

Peter... a few points. A chain should be used in tidal waters, and I set anchor by reversing the boat. On the west coast, the Danforth is the prevelant anchor, it all depends on the bottom composition Chain provides a elastic effect by the nature of it's weight in the rode. If anchoring overnight, ...
