Rod Souza is doing the work and is doing some work for Sierra, so that one has been tapped. I also have called around to Lou at Antique Boat Center and some other restorers. That may have some around. But I have not tried Vintage Marine. I will do that today. This will be the only way. One email at ...

Thanks Chad for tossing me a life line. I am not alone! Yes I have tried MBBW. The issue at hand here is that MBBW, said it was in stock according to my guy. We got a sample to match. And told them to please hold the hides. I think that either they sold the hides by the time they finally got the che...

Leather Emergency

I thought I had orderd 220 SQ. feet of Aquamarine Leather for a pre war runabout. I was just informed that I had but that it was going to take 7 weeks to make happen. Well that was not the orig agreement 2 weeks ago.It was in stock. But that is another story. Needless to say. I was working on a dead...

I need a varnishthick-o-meter to measure the thickness. One mans coat can be anothers 2. This all sounds like sound advice to me, and my tennis elbow. I am likly going to keep going until I hit a coat that just looks to good to screw up. I have found that each coat has it's own personality, kinda li...

I have heard that a heat gun can soften the stuff. Then clean it out. It still will effect the varnish though. Take a sanding disk piece of sand paper and fold it in half. Slide it in the groove and have at it. But in the end. We all know the answer...

Well I did it, stripped her down and even redid some planking. That is the tough truth but is the answer know from ex...

We are now on coat 7 of the varnish process and the color from the orig stain formula is beautifull. We even found a can of Walnut Chris Craft stain from Chris craft on ebay. The trick has been to adjust and add stain to varnish to smooth colors out. You can see the progress at www.woodyboats.blogsp...

How Many Coats Of Varnish Are needed?

We are on coat 7. With Several thick coats in between and faring. I have heard that at 6 coats to leave it alone for the summer, and then come back and complete the next 6 coats. Is that good advice. Or should I continue to 15 coats and then refresh in the fall? http://www.postimage.org/aV9UlW9.jpg

Help with pockets on pre war barrel

We are close to installing the interior and I am stumped. Does anyone have a shot or shot of how the canvas was installed into the pockets of a 1941 19 ft barrel back. Behind the inner boards that make the inner sides in the cockpit. Some of the wood has been replaced, So I am trying to make sure it...

In short. A blog is more of a journal. Web log is the origin. A collection of thoughts. The Boat Buzz is a forum. A place that folks talk. On the blog its less conversation and more internal. Thats why this blog is on things about classic boats that are not technical. Now with that said. A blog can ...

It won't be hard to do that since I am about the least qualified person on the planet to comment on the history and technical side of these boats.. Now off to the correct color of khakies, or is it kackies, cacky's... Oh we need help....

In need of editorial help

I own a marketing firm and 6 classic boats. I love the romance of the Antique & Classic boat world. And while I am at work, I secretly spend my time on the web searching for anything regarding Antique and Classic boats. The good thing is that there is a ton of good stuff. But it's all either someone...

Cutting the seams on Covering boards

Sounds like fun.. Yes diff sanding will create diff tones. But you know that. Make sure you dont make the same mistake I made once. Using Phil Mahog and african in the same Covering board. They may stain close to the same but age completly diff. So I had to make all the covering boards the same wood...

Oh ... sorry...Did you try Woodkote?. That is a diff type of stain and is great..Its not just a diff brand or color. Its a diff base.. No problems with that. The sandysky and Interlux can negate each other.. And takes more work.
