Paul; Based on your question you are at the bottom of a pretty big learning curve, but never fear the answers are out there. First, You need to understand that having to soak your bottom for three days is not a good thing and show that it is worn out and most likely not very safe. Originally the bot...

Don; First, names have been put on the sides and transom from the earliest days. Most of the time this was done in gold, silver, or paint. This type of lettering is becoming a lost art and does produce wonderful results. The problem is finding someone who has the talent and time. This gets pretty ex...

You can contact the Mariner's Museum for details on drawings, specs, etc. Jerry Conrad is your contact. next you can seek out other owners with the same model of boat as yourself. You would be surprised how helpful people can be.

Tell us what kind of bottom you have on your boat. Original, or something else. Yes, oil in gerneral is not good for many reasons. I would use some type of detergent to srub with and then suck it out with a wet vac. Get all the bulk oil out first with rags etc and then clean the fire out of it with ...

Kerry;

why would you go with Hondo? Go with the wood that closely matches the grain of the original. What this will require is some investigation on your part. Send a sample to your supplier and have them check it out. You should be able to match it up.

Kerry; You are confusing the woods. The Cedar that was used for the painted boats was not the same as Spanish Cedar which does looks like mahogany. Spanish is a little harder and is lighter in color (less redness). At the symposium here in Cincinnati, OH Wilson Wright did a talk and discussed the su...

You guys are correct in your thinking. For the historical record There was a Coast Guard reg that changed boating across the industry. Chris Craft, as many of you know had vented their tanks through a small hole in the gas cap. On 12-13-1940 memo Number 761 made the change from gas cap venting to ov...

Ed; If you do not want to damage your plate you will have to drill a small hole in the center of the "Drive Screw" and use an "easy out" to remove. Then you can put it back in with a new drive screw. If we had a way of downloading pics I would put some on here. Hope Basler will get that up and runni...

I guess it all depends on the amount you want to buy. I think we paid somewhere around 3.25 bf from ML Condon. We had to pay shipping but we were buying thousands of feet.

Did they say you could hand pick? If so I'll run down there to pick up some. Also what was W & L of the material?

Central use LL Johnson
East use ML Condon

A product that many use is Silkaflex 291 LOT. It is pretty good but a hint is to pump out of the tube into a pan and heat it up to remove all air bubbles. Then put back into caulk tube and apply.

I'm a little confused by your post. There should not be any oak "deck frames" in the back of a 1941 18'. Those would have been mahogany. The only oak in that area would have been the transome bow, transom uprights and chimes. The answer to your question is that they were not steamed and were cut fro...

Alan;

I have heard many people say in the past that there is no way to remove that and I agree. The wood is damaged at the cellular level and like you say to deep to sand out. So bleach and bleach only to have very poor results one season later. Wood replacement might be your only choice.

One thing you might want to rule out is a leak in the tranny oil cooler. The HF-7 has one and there could be an issue of water getting in the unit if it breaks a seal.

Brad; Most likely your need to adjust the Tranny. It is a Paragon and is pretty straight forward. When you say it will not go into forward, do you mean that the output shaft will not turn at all or do you mean that it will not "lock" in and stay in forward. The reverse function is a brake band that ...

That's great news about restoring it back some day. Before I went to Pre-war study I was a 60's guru. I have all the drawings, documents, and hull data on all the Holiday series etc. Did you know that CC made 50 of the 20 footers in Italy? Have fun, your journey has just begun
