Re: Bronze Bowden Cable
Not seeing anything online......... what if you took it somewhere and had it chromium plated. I've done that before on a TBird hood hinge and the chromium finish is somewhat bronze colored.

Re: My new 1958 Slick Craft
That was the reason I was given. Slick Crafts back then were equipped from the factory with a 75 or 80 HP Mercury. During the most recent restoration, a Johnson motor was installed. I am told, but don't know for sure, that these motors rotated in opposite directions. The hull only weighs about 750 p...

Re: My new 1958 Slick Craft
Thanks Greg.... It didn't make sense to me, but that what I was told by the second owner who had the boat when they switched over from the Mercury to the Johnson and re did parts of the interior........ I think it's an interesting story, so I may perpetuate the myth.......... ha ha

Re: My new 1958 Slick Craft
Actually I do Don....... The fins were not factory supplied. I am told by a boat historian in Holland MI who consulted on the restoration that it was not unusual in that time period to fabricate removable add on fins........... I had never heard that. I am torn about whether or not to remove them......

My new 1958 Slick Craft
I still have my 15 foot Cavalier CC and have acquired a 58 Slick Craft. I have done some research and there may only be a handful of these boats remaining. Information is understandably sparse however I have located the second owner who had a major restoration done when he purchased the boat in 2008...

Re: I hope this isn't sacrilege
Thanks John. Original owner had it 51 years. The second owner restored it......... so he took the monetary hickey. Lots of work went into this boat. I have found reference to the most recent restoration being done by Firehouse Boatworks, Holland Michigan with the historical advisor being Geoffery Re...

Re: I hope this isn't sacrilege
Yeah Don, they had about 9 plywood models....... later fiberglass and also some high end sail boats and yachts........ The guy recruited a lot of the CC personnel as time went on.
Doug, there is NO doubt I need help......... fast.

Re: I hope this isn't sacrilege
I do have a question however..........
I am going to have to get the registration numbers and stickers off both sides of the boats. I am not sure if they were put on on top of or under the varnish.
What am I up against here?

I hope this isn't sacrilege
BUT I just bought a 57 or 58 Slick Craft Boat. The company was started in the mid 50's by a man who worked for Chris Craft. They only built the "moulded mahogany plywood" boats for about 4 years and then switched to mostly fiberglass. The first owner had this boat over 50 year. I am attaching an ad ...

Re: 'K' Engine Water Pump Leak
I'm sure someone will answer this pretty quick. I have had mine off but I can't remember. It's a snap to remove and disassemble however so don't hesitate to do that if you want to see if what is causing the leak is obvious..........

Re: Hull Construction- wood type
That's great....... I hear a lot of people warn against the fiberglass on the bottom but I assume they are referring to adding it later when you might trap moisture in some rotted areas...........

Re: Hull Construction- wood type
I wish I knew........ I'll be following your progress with interest since I really should have done this to mine before I undertook all the patching and painting. I remember your boat being in pretty good shape. What motivated you for the complete re-do? Good luck. It should look great when you fini...

Re: Iva Lite wiring
Dennis,
Is what you are referring to those two little round spring looking things in the recess inside of the hinge? I was afraid to take that completly loose for fear the springs would pop out and not go back in correctly...........

Iva Lite wiring
I just purchased a late 40's iva lite. I want to replace the wire that goes from the terminal on the bulb to the positive power source but it won't seem to budge. I guess it's anchored somewhere within the base of the fixture however I can't get the base to unscrew at the large nut that connects the...

Thanks Ron and Greg.......... I tried to strip the paint, but it revealed an extensive amount of prior hull damage that had been repaired. I removed all the paint, did extensive repairs and I am almost done painting...........
I will post some pictures soon.
Thanks again

Can I wax my topside paint?
I used Interlux easypoxy, one part top paint on my 1958 Cavalier. Can I wax it once it cures? If so, how long should I wait and what is a good wax to use?

Re: How to finish a dash........
Another question......... I didn't have any 80 grit sandpaper, so I used 100 to sand prior to putting on the Interlux Interstain. When I wiped it down there are some areas that are lighter than others even though I rubbed it out with a cloth dampened with brushing liquid. Can I go back and do a seco...
