Stan,
If this is for George French's boat, I sent the upholstery info to Bones back in April.

Re: correct screw head - slotted or phillips
Don, As I said, Reed & Prince is a brand, not a screw head type. For example, if you went down to the local hardware store and compared different brands of Phillips, Robertson, hex, slotted etc. screws, I am sure you would note minor differences in tooling used for slot width, depth, edge radius etc...

Re: correct screw head - slotted or phillips
Top Notch Fasteners and Clark Craft Fasteners (among others) still make chrome plated brass Frearson head. Remember, Reed & Prince is a brand, not a screw type. Frearson is the screw head type. Reed & Prince was the predominant manufacturer of Frearson head screws, and is who Chris-Craft bought them...

Re: correct screw head - slotted or phillips
No, Frearson after May 1941, slots before. I used to think slots remained in the hardware through WWII despite the Frearson construction screws coming in 5/41, but have seen convincing original examples since indicating the oval head hardware screws changed around the same time as well.

Re: 1st time refinishing
I think many are hesitant to offer advise because clear coating with West 207 on a original planked Chris-Craft hull has failed in nearly every past instance. West 207/105 is designed to be a clear base on newly constructed cold-molded laminated hulls of glued thin wood layers, and used for fibergla...

Re: Gas Tank for 1951 Riviera
Have you tried radiator shops? I don't live that far from LA and have not had a problem finding radiator shops that will boil out, repair, and line original tanks. If you need a new one look up Woodies Restorations in Kentucky, they bought Rayco tanks.

The Moeller color is just wrong. When they took over Tempo the color got lost in translation.

Re: 54 Cris Craft Custom Sedan Flooring
This is a hard one... It was a solid, bright fire engine red (I have original samples). Solid red linoleum is virtually nonexistent. You used to see it everywhere in Target stores, but look closely, even that is marbled now. I helped a friend scour the country for it last year. I now have every lino...

It always amazes me what "WE" go through to get our boats looking as good as we can. This is taken from page 136 of "Building Chris-Craft inside the factories". ".... After eight hours, the workers applied the first coat of varnish. Chris-Craft never allowed fresh stain to remain more that eight ho...

Rubber strut bearing, also known as a cutlass bearing like all modern inboards use.

I had posted thinking you had a Hercules, sorry.
For a Chrysler you want the zinc plated "adjustable band clamp" from Restoration Supply, part #FAS002 (check sizes). Replace the thumb screw with a zinc round head slot machine screw from the local hardware store.

Re: A curious Craigslist posting......
A-70s and A-120s are incredibly rare. I know of zero of either on the market that are restorable. The A-70s had a few inherent problems which is why Chris-Craft completely redesigned it only two years after its introduction. They only share a few interchangeable parts. I sold the last A-120 on the m...

If a true cold molded bottom is what they are after, three layers is more than sufficient. Most use 4mm BS1088 for that size boat, but I suppose 3mm would be fine.

Denny,
Except for very few special exceptions, Chris-Craft did not go to white deck seams until 1931. Prior to that they were brown originally.
