Re: The Building of Miss Dot
These next shots show my lack of experience, installing the cover boards on the transom so early but I was practicing before I reached the bigger areas.

Re: The Building of Miss Dot
In the beginning I didn't keep up with pictures like I should (damnit) so there is a little gap when I was building a new keel, new stringers, repairing the chines, replacing frames and building the transom.

The Building of Miss Dot
My story begins all the way back to when I was a child helping my uncle (more like handing him stuff) build a flat bottom river boat in my father’s welding shop, I think I was 11. Didn’t know it at the time but years later I would find myself with the urge to build my own boat and so the task begins...

Re: New to the hobby!
Kerry thanks, the dolly came from a local boat manufacture (Scout Boat) that a good friend is part owner of, this particular dolly is one they no longer use but worked perfect for my needs. When I retrieved it it had a tree growing through it but once I had it home it only required some clean-up and...

Re: Wiring of Generator
What you have is called a "cut-out", not a regulator. One wire should go into the generator to the armature and the other to the ammeter. Someone will correct me but I believe the way it works is when the RPM's reach a certain point, it opens up and charging begins. The only thing that concerns me ...

Re: Wiring of Generator
Will check that out this afternoon, haven't checked the voltage with the RPM's above 600. It also makes some since, when I first cranked it and went to shut the engine down it wouldn't, at that time I had the hot wire from the generator hooked to the ignition side of the switch and it was feeding ba...

Re: Wiring of Generator
After further investigating i'm now thinking that what I thought to be a regulator is instead some sort of coil that has something to do with converting the generator from 6 to 12 volts,,,,,,I think. With that said I have posted some pics in hopes that someone here might recognize my situation. FYI,...

Re: Re-powering with different motors
I have been a hot rodder most of my life and built many engines and out of all the chevy engines you can pick from I have to say that the 307 is the least favorite, in my honest opinion you would be better off with the 283's. My two cents worth.

Proper Christening
I think we all know that the proper christening for a new boat is breaking a bottle of champagne across the cutwater but is the re-christening of a boat the same? I have seen people pouring water over the top deck and I have seen flowers thrown on to the top deck, is there a certain way to christen ...

Thanks I purchased some mahogany . Terry how is your floor constructed? Mine is planked but other photos I have seen are panels . From what I can find Chris craft used butternut for floor boards That's a good question, there wasn't a whole lot left to my flooring when I purchased my boat, the few p...

Re: Oil, Tack, Choke Location
Realize now why I didn't mention the temp, my boat did not have a temp gauge, just a tack, oil pressure, and amp.
Now looking for a vintage temp gauge I can mount right to the engine (thought that might be kind of cool) any body out there have one of those??

Re: Oil, Tack, Choke Location
Thanks, forgot to mention the temp. It make senses that the choke and throttle would be on the same side. The spot on this engine (which is not the original engine) where the oil line connects is on the front port side, I may in up running it on that side just because it would make more sense also.

Oil, Tack, Choke Location
I have looked at a lot of pics over the years but have still not been able to determine the exact location for the oil line, tack cable, and choke cable. In one pic it appears that the oil line runs on the inside of the port stringer just below the throttle linkage but it could also be the choke cab...

Re: New to the hobby!
Thanks, same boat but I probably only ended up using about 5% of the old, it was more of a template with a few pieces of hardware and a 1947 GM engine which is back in the boat.boat_art wrote:Thats 2 different boats right Terry? (wow...awsome work!)
