Mcmaster Carr has DOT compression fittings (not yor-lok fittings) and the nuts look just like the original compression nuts.

Re: Rebuild or Repower
I'm rebuilding a 430 right now. They are a very expensive motor to rebuild. Most of the internal parts are no longer available so you have to track down new old stock parts. Also the combustion chamber is in the block so you have to find a machine shop that has the jigs to bore the cylinders. Think ...

Re: Self bailer vent hole
You can tap the inside hole of the bailer with a 1/2 inch pipe tap. Then install a brass pipe plug with JB Weld on the threads. Then put the hose and bailer on. Done this way it will look completely original. It should have a hole at the very top of the loop. smaller then a 1/16 inch. If the hole is...

There is a factory memo that has the exact date the plates change over to R&P screws. I know the year was 40 or 41. I think Don Danneberg has a copy of it from the Mariners Museum.

The original hole will do fine. Just run the same size drill bit through the hole to make sure its completely clear.

Re: M Engine Fuel Bowl Gasket
If the fuel bowl gasket is over a year old. They usually won't reseal after the bowl has been removed. The cork ones get hard. Rubber ones leak. I think its the additives they put in todays fuel. Which are the same whether it has ethanol in it or is ethanol free. You can get a sheet of cork gasket m...

The starboard engine has an L stamped by the timing mark. Could it be possible the engines have the the wrong flywheels on them. What degree setting should I use to check the timing? Thanks Dave The L means left hand. So I would guess you have the flywheels on the wrong engines. If that is the case...

If your 327 flywheel forward conversion is the 283 Chris Craft conversion parts. It should drop right in. Chris craft designed the flywheel forward engine to drop in on the same mount block using the the same front holes that the K used. When it rest on the original blocks it will be very close to t...

Re: 95hp "K" Blowby around Spark Plug
Thats a simple fix. Get a package of spark plug index washers. Put shipping tape on one side and cut the center out. Put some JB weld in the pit and put the washer on tape side down. Then screw the spark plug in. Wait a few minutes then unscrew the spark plug by hand while holding the washer down wi...

Re: Recommended KBL Engine Oil
I guess I'm still out to sea regarding engine oils. Brad Penn 30 wt high performance oil and Rotella straight 30 wt oil both seem to indicate that they are detergent oils. Is this true? I prefer to use a single grade non-detergent oil in my M-27 engine as I can only assume it's been a long time sin...

Re: Recommended KBL Engine Oil
One of the posts regarding the use of Brad Penn 30 wt engine oil in classic flat head engines was to make sure you don't use Brad Penn 30 wt break-in oil. The only thing I see different in the oils is the addition of proper levels of ZDDP in the break=in oil. Is there harm in using the break-in oil...

Re: Another boat that needs ID help!!
Definitely homebuilt. It has an engine bed for the motor. It does not have stringers which run most of the length of the boat. The boat will probably flex a lot since there isn't anything tying all the frame work together.

The Barrelback will be the best riding one. The Racing Runabouts where built for speed. Flatter bottom so they are rougher riding in choppy water.

Re: 1959 CC Ski 18' 283 has low oil pressure when started cold some times but others it jumps right up to 30-40.
Thanks for all the input, FYI when spinning the pump with a priming tool it does not allow you to build pressure because with the tack drive removed there is an open oil gallery passage , you can see the oil pumping but you will not build pressure. Incorrect. You were probably spinning it the wrong...

More then likely the only reason to remove a board bedded in 5200 is because its been damaged and requires replacement. Thats when a router becomes your best friend.

Those are drive pins. Not rivets. The best way is to cut a slot in the head with a dremel tool and try ti unscrew them out. The shanks have a twist to them. So when they are driven in. They twist in like a screw.

The 17' footers had them also so make sure you ask for the length you want. I have in the past seen some with dark green but I think that was either a 22 or 23 foot triple.

Re: Recommended KBL Engine Oil
So, here is a question then. Was it because of better oil, or a change in engine design? Its fair to say that a pre war engine would have been a tad more loose? I ask this because is todays 30 wt the same as 1945's 30 Weight? I smell a story here. 30w is 30w. The additives in todays oil are much be...
