Re: 283 engine ID plates

Thanks guys, I'll have to decide if I want to keep the patina or go with NOS plates and stainless fasteners.

283 engine ID plates

How should I go about restoring the engine ID plates? Removing and replacing the rivets seems to be the challenge. Should/can I reuse the current plates? Thanks.

Casters for boat cradle

I'm in search a caster recommendation for my 20 foot model 100 which sits on a wooden cradle. This will be rolled on concrete during the restoration.
Thanks.

Jim, you say the cover on the oil pump is leaking? Make sure the gasket is installed with the little drain hole towards the bottom. Otherwise the oil accumulates in that area and seeps out around the bail.
The hole is at the bottom although I did not enlarge it.

Re: 95 K Oil Leak

I've seemed to make some headway. Rebuilt the fuel pump and tightened up everything. So far except for the fuel pump cover still seeping like it always has I feel good about the progress. Not sure if the smell O meter is accurate or not. Maybe one more oil change...

That's how the factory did my 56 Sportsman. Does the inner plywood bottom have the screws in it? If it does its more than likely original.

Re: 95 K Oil Leak

Thank you! Credit goes out to my late brother John who was my partner throughout this entire restoration. This was our first restoration so credit to Don Danenberg as well for putting out the book. That's mostly how we got the job done. Right before my brother passed we bought the model 100 so that ...

So to clarify; the dripping is on the front under the flywheel area?

95 K Oil Leak

She's dripping off the front mounting plate enough to where I see a few drops on the keel. The engine was rebuilt two seasons ago, runs great and very few hours. Any ideas on how I should proceed? I'm not an engine rebuilder although if it's something not to involved I could replace some gaskets as ...

Re: Deck Maintenance Varnish

My thought here is since I'm only doing the deck, I do not want to take a chance on any varnish drips on the interior or the sides while I'm rolling. Maybe it's overkill but I would rather just cover it and not have to worry. This is my first maintenance coat so I'm definitely not an expert at the p...

Deck Maintenance Varnish

I'm finally ready for a first maintenance varnish coat on the entire deck. The topsides, interior and transom still look fine. I have seen the interiors taped off and covered with plastic visqueen. What tape and visqueen do you recommend? Should the visqueen be precut to the cockpit shape prior to ta...

Replacement Fuel Tank

We may have broken some rules on fuel tank guidelines. When we purchased our Sportsman in 99 we were kinda green on the whole restoration process and made a couple of decisions that were probably not the best at the time. For example, recoating the inside of the fuel tank in 2000. We thought the tan...
