Re: Leaded vs. Unleaded Fuel and winterizing additive
I use 93 octane pump gas, ethanol free if I can get it. I also always run the Lucas Fuel treatment in every tank as I do in all of my power equipment as well. For winterization, i use Stabil fuel treatment and fogging oil down the carburetor to inhibit rust in the cylinders. This is obviously in add...

Re: Special Race Boat Replica Project
I had the pleasure of seeing this boat up close and personal at the Bluegrass Rendezvous. She has a very long racing history and is one of a handful left and possibly the only one in full race configuration with a Lycoming 6 cylinder that turns 5500 RPM on 110 octane Race Fuel. Is this the boat that...

Re: '59 V-8 283
You can safely remove the carb by unbolting it and removing any linkage clips, fuel lines, etc. You will not mess anything up by removing the carb as an assembly, just don't take it apart. Take pictures if you need to, and be sure not to drop anything down in the intake manifold where it could roll ...

Re: Great reason to own a CRUISER!
I got my first real tour of a wooden cruiser a couple of week's ago when I was offered a tour of Paul Cundiff's Phoenix-a 55' wooden cruiser. I must say that it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. However, I could quickly see how Cruiser ownership is not for the faint of heart. I envy yo...

Re: Engine Oil
As I understand it Jim, the newer oils without ZDDP do not allow the lifters to rotate within their bore, and therfore they will flatten a cam lobe. I would continue to use either ZDDP additive, or a Heavy Duty or Racing oil with respectable levels of ZDDP.

Re: Engine Oil
I figure I should be good. I've been using Rotella and on the rebuild, used both the Lunati break in oil additive and this stuff, which came highly recommended by a big time hot rodder I know.

Re: Engine Oil
ZDDP is a zinc and phosphorus additive. The newer oils do not have as much zinc and phosphorus that flat tappet cams require since nearly everything now has roller cams. I personally use Shell Rotella T, which is a heavy duty diesel oil that still contains the zinc and phosphorus. Here is some good ...

Re: 1970 17ft ski boat looking for info
The '69 and '70 were virtually the same except for a few things. The '69 is a Cavalier and the '70 is a Corsair division boat. There were 100 in '69 and 53 in '70. There are some subtle differences such as a 1 piece vs. 3 piece windshield, the rear vents are located in different places, the dash is ...

Re: Q intake conversion project to standard GM style !
Paul, The Q choke is directly connected to the exhaust as you stated and works just fine in my engine. I have never had any issue from it. Why do you think there is a need to switch to the Edelbrock 1409? It is a 650 CFM carb vs 425 from the stock Carter AVS, which is certainly enough carb for even ...

Re: Q intake conversion project to standard GM style !
I have to first figure out how to plumb the Vintage Edelbrock M1 Exhaust Manifolds, then on to the intake. I do however have a viable cast iron candidate in a 300HP 327 manifold when you do get this figured out Paul. I don't think this job is all that difficult. I would guess that the thermostat is ...

Re: 327Q correct heads.
My 1969 Q had casting #3884520. This is the "Power Pack" heads use on many 327/283 engines. I have the original set if you need them. They will need rebuilt. One spark plug hole will need repaired with a time sert. Other than that, they appear to be good cores.

Do you have risers? I would also suspect the exhaust manifold on that side. If you have a crack in the water jacket in the manifold, water will enter the cylinder through an open exhaust valve.

Re: Early Glass CC Runabout
There has been a 78-79 Super Sport on eBay a few times that looks to be one of the nicest around. I don't think it sold, so it should show up again soon.
Also, Chad, where did you take that pic of the '70 Ski Boat? I thought I had seen all '69-70 Ski Boats but certainly have not seen that one.

Re: Early Glass CC Runabout
I myself am partial to the '69 CC Ski Boat, however there are so many other great choices out there. The '69 Commander SS is an awesome boat but not cheap in restored condition and hard to find in unrestored, project condition. They were the predecessor to the XK series and were Inboard vs I/O. The ...

I hope to fire it within the next few days. The boat is wet sanded, buffed and has all hardware back o...

Engine Box Insulation
I see that the older models all seemed to have a Homasote type board insulation on the inside of the engine box, but I can't seem to find anything like what my boat has. It looks like fiberglass insulation wrapped in a fiberglass mat material. I can't seem to find anything like this anywhere online,...
