Those docks at Algonac are certainly better suited for taller, larger boats. I got a little dock rash myself this weekend.. :(

Re: Vaporizing Fuel

I got a call from Chris today, complete with the 396 running on my carb in the background. He said it runs perfectly and will be great on my engine. I'll pick it up Monday. Pretty quick turnaround and reasonably priced. I would have to say I'd recommend Chris to anyone here looking for carb work.

Re: Vaporizing Fuel

Great recommendation on Chris's Carb Shop. I took my carb in today and they put it on a test engine. Before they even attempted to start it, it was flooding, so they took it off. Chris disassembled it in about 3 minutes, finding a piece of dirt in the seat, not allowing the needle to close. He found...

Re: Vaporizing Fuel

It's definitely fuel related since it is percolating fuel through the secondary shooters. I think it's flooding. I'm going to check the floats and needle settings again. I have the old needle and seats, I might switch them out.

Re: Vaporizing Fuel

I'm using a newer Mallory coil and haven't had any issue with it. The Q manifold doesn't have the exhaust chamber under the carb, the choke tube is in the exhaust manifold. The carb has been rebuilt, I'll have to pull it apart and check the floats and needle/seats to make sure they're set correctly....

Vaporizing Fuel

I've been fighting a fuel issue and am totally baffled this evening. Here's the story - After a full engine build, the boat ran great, idled great, but would lose fuel pressure above 2800 RPM. I installed a pressure gauge and verified that the pressure was dropping. I rebuilt the mechanical fuel pum...

Re: Windshield Molding

I checked with Taylor Made and they do not make this rubber. I spoke with a very knowledgeable guy there that thinks this windshield was made by Speed Sport. I think I am going to use a silver silicone or butyl to seal the windshield in. The channels shown above are different than this frame. This w...

Thanks Jim. This is probably the best lead I've gotten in several years of searching. I don't see a gray vinyl and they don't have dimensions on their site, but they have a couple moldings that may work. I really appreciate the lead.

Windshield Molding

The very last piece of the puzzle to.complete my boat is the rubber windshield molding. It presses into the aluminum channel that the plexiglass windshield locks into. It goes on the outside and holds the plexiglass in tight, it doesn't look bad without it and most people won't notice, but it rattle...

Re: Ski Pole for a 1961 CC Ski Boat

While we're on the subject of Ski Poles, I need the bracket for a 327Q if anyone has one laying around. I'm not sure this one will work on a Q. The major issue is that, to my knowledge, this particular bracket was only used on the '69 & '70 Ski Boat, and was an option on those, so there is a very sm...

Re: Copper Fuel Line and Brass Fitting Dilema

You may not be able to find the correct angle on the flare fittings. I went to a guy that does braided fuel lines for all types of high performance applications and he sent me to a hydraulic shop because he said my flare angle was obsolete in his world. The hydraulic shop made a new braided, Teflon ...

Re: 1970 ski boat

The '69 & '70 Ski Boats are very solid hulls. There is no Flotation Foam in them and the floor is 3/4" plywood, which is easily replaced. The Seat bases are very simple and easy to replicate, using 2x lumber and plywood. I would be most concerned about the engine in this boat. The original was a Fly...

Re: My 283 replaced by 350 ???

The 350 will look just like the 283, if you want to go that route. Your manifolds and other marine parts will bolt right on. You will need to swap out a few parts such as the oil pump pickup, etc. If you want to keep the 283 and yours is too far gone, they are available and you should be able to fin...

Re: Rebuild or Replace a 283 R15 Fuel Pump Model # 4926?

You will need the correct setting measurements for you particular carb. You have a "Drop" setting which is the distance from the float to the top plate when the floats are dropped all the way as in a fully empty bowl, which would equal a fully open needle & seat. The other measurement is 180 degrees...

Re: Rebuild or Replace a 283 R15 Fuel Pump Model # 4926?

If you switch to electric, pay attention to the type of pump you use. I purchased an Airtek pump and it is required to be mounted within 12" of the engine and after the fuel filter. Some electric pumps, such as the Holley in-line pumps, are pusher pumps and should be mounted near the fuel tank. Shie...
