Mike, I had a fellow come in the shop last week with his disassembled steering gear. It had the braising just like yours. We took one of my spare boxes apart and it didn't have the braised spots on it. I think it's definitely a stop of some kind. tom vintage marine boats in the shop: 1946 chris craf...

To all, I have had three 17' deluxe's in the shop over the years. My first boat was a 17' deluxe. In all three cases the boats were planked in Honduras, not Philippine. I'm not a 100% sure they were Honduras or Spanish Cedar. http://s1.postimage.org/lRWe9.jpg http://s3.postimage.org/U3GcS.jpg http:/...

Gele, Your instrument panel is correct. I restored a model 199 about 20 years ago. I sent to panel out to Pat Powell at the time, according to him and the way he restored it, it had a black krinkle finish. Also had silver prewar logo under the tach. I will try to dig up a picture. Paul,
I was looking at the photos of your interior. Looks
fantastic. I was wondering what you used on the side
panels. I have two of these out back of the shop and
i'm thinking of bringing one for a winter project.
thanks,
tom

Gord, Yes, one hole is for the choke, see pic of my dash. Instrument and nav switch above steering column, key switch and starter button. That's all that should be there, there could be a hole for an Iva-lite, all lot of those where installed. I don't think chris craft installed bilge pumps in 1947....
