Re: Connie Refresh
Sorry guys, I cannot make it this year. That's my wife's birthday party and we've got relatives coming in. My Brother in law is down there now and I'm trying to talk him into staying for the show. He's down there for Bike Week. My Brass Bell hasn't arrived yet so I've not seen your write up. Don't w...

Re: Brass Bell, Issue 1 2014!!!!
This is in regards to the current (Spring? 2015) issue of the Brass Bell. Not really wanting to complain but all my Cruiser buddies are raving about the article on Troy's "American Beauty" and I can't join in because mine hasn't arrived yet!! Any idea when I might expect it?

Re: Connie Refresh
On my 1960 they are Chrome but the pipes are painted white. I'm partial to the chrome and second choice would be nickel. But I would do whatever was original.

Re: Connie Refresh
Very sound advice I'd say. Try out that can on something isolated like your Forward Hatch or the Salon Companionway Hatch or Door. That's quite the crew there in the picture. These Native American names need to come with Pronunciation Guides. Is it; Co-boss-ee, or Co-bo-see? Or something else? I jus...

Re: Connie Refresh
I just went to a seminar at our SE MI Chpt. ACBS winter mtg. and listened to a presentation by a refinisher with 30 yrs. experience with Boats. She uses nothing other than Epifanes products. So I visited Epifanes website. They actually recommend using the Gloss under the Satin. They also have Rapid ...

If you're doing this would you still scuff between coats?

Re: Connie Refresh
Let me turn that around and ask the question. Theoretically a Satin finish should adhere better for subsequent coats, regardless of scuffing between coats. Does it make any sense to build with Satin and then finish w/gloss if gloss is what you're after? I've always used the same varnish start to fin...

Re: Connie Refresh
Troy,
I would think that you'd want to use as high a gloss as possible for the exterior. Because of its weathering characteristics. I've only ever used Satin on interior features.

Re: Connie Bottom
There's been discussion about the wedges for some time now. Apparently CC did build them originally, not sure when they started but they are quite common.

It's a little hard to tell in the photos but it looks like you're putting the wedge back in. Is that correct?

Re: Connie Refresh
I can see now that he's got some kind of shaft that inserts into the middle of the bridge. There must be a long handle attached to it and what I took for him walking back & forth is actually him walking in a circle cranking the bridge closed.

Re: Connie Refresh
I just rewatched all of your videos. What an exciting time for you all! Sandi's excitement was palpable. Great video. I see the Bridge Guy walking back & forth and I assume that he's somehow closing the Bridge. Does anyone know how that works?

I saw him there but I didn't know what he was doing. There are more of those manual bridges and locks than anyone would guess. Nice day for cruising!

Re: Hard to reach area to varnish
Thanks for asking. I've made no progress other than to get it correctly shored up this year. I've been having a continuing health concern that I've been dealing with since last Nov. That has had me in the hospital twice and in and out of Dr.'s office constantly since then. It's not solved yet but ap...

Re: '56 Connie 47' Hull restore
Looks like lots of reflective thinking going on! That's the really fun part of restoration, decisions about what to do, not agonizing about the bill!
Glad it's in the water and no longer leaking! Congratulations to you both on the new bottoms! You've given them new life!

Re: Hard to reach area to varnish
Sandpaper, always sandpaper. I don't like chemicals. It's solid Mahogany so no worrys about it being thinned too much by sanding. I wanted it back to bare wood to start over so that I knew how much was there. It's not an official boat part so I don't think nomenclature matters much. Eye shade would ...

Re: Hard to reach area to varnish
Yes, I do have a 1960 with a hardtop. You can follow the link to my membership listing to see more pics. I used a Random Orbital sander with an iron shaped head that allowed me to get close. For where it was just not possible to reach with a machine I would indeed use just sandpaper folded into a v ...

Re: Hard to reach area to varnish
Not sure just what you mean about reaching those areas. They're in the open and easily reached. I just stood on the cabin roof to get at the area above my windshield. It was no problem. Best of luck to you.

Thank you LaClede. There's nothing like a first hand account from a user. I have a Defender system which utilizes 4 webcams (it can do up to 8 with my existing equipment). This is at my house and works in conjunction with my existing security system. I asked my tech if it could be used on my boat an...

Re: uh Oh!
Ok, so this is a mystery. Today I got an email notifying me of a new posting to this thread. Clicked on it and there's nothing new here. So how did that happen? Anyway it got me interested so I reread the entire thread from the beginning on, including the links to other references. I was again amaze...
