Re: Cleaning old fuel from tank???

With luck, I will have a new stainless steel tank by the end of this week to replace my rotten one. I see that the piping for the original tank in this thread was sealed with some kind of black stuff. Does anyone have any idea what was originally used? What is recommended now for a stainless steel t...

Since it looks like the ice will be gone from Wisconsin by next weekend, I plan on attending with my Thompson.

Re: BoatBuzz Banner Contest

I would like to but I am waiting for the decal. I put the final coat of varnish (for this year) on the stern today and I need to check to see if it is suitable for the decal. I might have to wait for next year. Someone else want to start?

Re: BoatBuzz Banner Contest

Something else that I would be interested in is a compilation of tight shots of sterns (boats that is) featuring the lettering art work.

Re: Deck Striping

This is my first full year with my CC so I am still learning. I spent this spring trying to restore the varnish and found it is a steep learning curve including a change in varnish manufacturer. Unfortunately, the weather has not made the process any easier with cold and rain, including this week. A...

Re: Hard racing copper bottom paint

Well I found the copper bronze bottom paint I was looking for. Kush Paints in Michigan sells an oil base copper bronze paint they manufacture that can be used for boat bottoms and it is significantly less expensive than an anti-fouling paint. They have a web site www.kushpaint.com but you have to ca...

Re: White line grooves in deck

I know that this issue has been discussed frequently but I have a twist that I could use some help on. The grooves on my Runabout are completely filled, infact the white lines area actually proud of the wood in some places. I am not ready to reef the grooves out this year but would like to repaint t...

Re: Ever find your sister boat?

I was considering the purchase of a 47" Runabout that was in pretty rough shape and was not sure it was a project I wanted to take on...that is until I saw that the engine was cast on the same day that I was born. Does that make us brothers or brother and sister?

Since my boat is only used for day trips, spends most time on the trailer, and I am not interested in judging, I am considering using a copper colored enamal for bottom paint. It should last longer and look better than using a bottom paint. Thoughts?

Regarding Hidem, my recently purchased 1947 17' Deluxe Runabout (R-413) was refurbished in 2008 by a reputable company. According to the company owner, the boat owner wanted him to install the hidem under the crash pad with just a welt around the top of the crash pad. I have not found another boat d...

Glad I found this post because I have been wondering if anyone has used 5200 with 2 layers of traditional planks. I understand the value in the use of plywood (2 layers or 1 plus planks) but would the use of planks be easier to construct? I can only work in short chunks of time and would like to put...

One more thing, the four bunks on my trailer for the '47 Runabout extend 6 inches beyond the transom and I was thinking about putting a wedge of plastic on each end to help settle the boat forward on the trailer. I do the parking lot break adjustment but would rather not. I am also thinking about re...

I had a trailer built last year for my 47' Runabout and insisted that he build it so the boat was as low as practical because of low water levels in Wisconsin. He put the axle above the frame which put the prop guard real close to the ground. I would have had to buy a new hitch to get the ball lower...

No need to worry about asbestos in linoleum. Linoleum is about the greenest product out there. Limestone, linseed oil, and coloring.

Your pictures prompt this question. I have a "K" reportedly rebuilt in 2005 that looks similar but not exactly like the engine in your picture. The "nub" under the "T" fitting is tapped (3/8 inch). I did not know the hole was there until I went out with a heavy load of people. When I came back there...

Timely discussion. I have a 1947 K with a plate that says to use S.A.E. #40 oil. The manual (Second Printing) recommends S.A.E. #30. I put in #40 but was wondering why Chris Craft would have this discrepency. Also, does a tap in the transmission cover work, if so what size and where is the best loca...
