Classic Chris on Mackinac Island

Post by tparsons56 » Tue Oct 18, 2016 1:41 pm

Last weekend we were enjoying fall in Northern Michigan on Mackinac Island when I noticed this beautiful cruiser in the Harbor. I was told it was owned by the person who owns the Grand Hotel. Interesting color - I would guess that was not "stock" when it left the factory.

The color looks like sea foam green. Beautiful boat! Thanks for the photos.

Looks like it could be Dulcinea, a 1954 53ft Constellation that is listed in the registry. We saw this great boat and tried to purchase 3-4 years ago. Dulcinea was being stored in Mackinac Michigan, maybe now has new owners if this is the same Constellation.

Nice Boat! Love the big cruisers.

I'd be curious to know if the hard top was factory or added later.

Thanks for sharing! :D

The Marion Leigh belongs to the Musser family from the Grand Hotel fame. It is a 1955 53' Constellation. The "Essential Guide" has a picture of the 53' Constellation without a hard top, but 42 of this model were built so I would guess that it must have been an option on this large of a boat. The 54' Motor Yacht built in 1951-1952 has a hard top almost identical to this.

The guide also mentions that the hull sides were white, but the Cabin top was green. I believe the green used was much closer to a Sea Foam green in 1955. The green color of this boat is much paler and toned down. It also mentions that the Waterline color was green and the upholstery was green.

Exactly as it came out of the factory or not, it is a beautiful example of this model. I hope it remains a fixture on the island for many years to come.

Can anyone tell me what exact color green that is? We would like to paint the hardtop on our Constellation?
