tragic marina fire in Virginia

Sad to say there must be a big number of older boats lost in the covered slip fire this morning at the historic Richmond Yacht Basin.
If you google or youtube it you will see a video that is truly gut wrenching for us old boat fans. There is a large cruiser burning in the river having floated out of her slip....it is really weird and frightening to see the three burning "stacks of flame" sticking way above, she is burned nearly to the waterline and these are the fuel filler pipes lit up like a burning oil well. Tomorrow night was to be the annual Richmond holiday boat parade...sadly it featured boats from this the site close to the city on the James River.
This was the first truly frigid day also so we can hope this was not caused by some inappropriate engine compartment heater arrangement? On the bright side there was no loss of life nor injury and the whole place did not go up.

just sad.

In point of fact this is the latest of several tragic marina fires in this area in recent years....I can name 5 right off and all were big time loses and damage. Let's all be careful with heaters and etc. this time of year. Lots of potential for fire with all that fuel and electrical stuff going on.....
