Tango Uniform

If it doesn't pertain to metal, wood, wire or fabric—but it is about vintage Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

I wish there was a stronger term for this type of sleaze. Feeding their empty stomachs...BS

the sad thing is that there is more truth than humor in what you say. It is interesting to speculate as to what the ratio of people pulling the wagon to those riding in it will be, before the whole thing collapses of its own weight.

France, 1790's. The wagon was being pulled and pushed to the guillotine! It was full of folks that believed that their wallet was more important than their country.

Starting to warm up. Almost ready to go back to doing Elude's refit.

The Hoochie Coochie boat is definitely a pre-war hull. It has identical features to our 35' 1937(8), except the portholes.

Sort of like a monarchy. Revolutions are a nasty business. Takes an intolerable status quo to start one. Nothing lasts forever.... except a wooden boat... check out the Roman barge in this month's National Geographic.

Marty Loken is the only name I know....one of the premier wood boat people in the PNW. He is in Nordland WA.
The name on your build sheet is possibly the CC shipper. The CC dealer at the time was Wolfe Marine who was under the I-5 bridge ...now on Fairview where I believe Lady Mohr was moored for a while.

Laclede. you are covering the historical aspects of boating.
I would suggest that you look at boating also as far as use.

from Kenneth Grahame: 'Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing ... nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

To comfortably use your boat,
A. Get Chapman Piloting: Seamanship & Small Boat Handling. It must be a good book because it is in it's 60 + printing. Keep a copy on your boat.
B. Take a USPS (Power Squadron Course). I have taken it three times and has really aided me when there were serious problems. There are SO DAMN MANY IRRESPONSIBLE BOATERS OUT THERE.
C. Join your local ACBS....here there are MANY qualified people, most with the same likes
D. Enjoy your boat....it will add 20 years to your life.

Doug, I completely agree. I found the best way to take the CPS Boating course multiple times is to volunteer to teach it, which I did for 15 years, 2 per year. Joined the Toronto Chapter of the ACBS years ago. All part of the boating experience, for me anyway. :D

Laclede

In your excitement remember these safe boating tips.

1) Don't throw the Jim Beam bottle caps overboard. They will be essential to the proper functioning of the 'pontoons'.

2) Use the following fuel formula: (EGN X 2.5) + (WS+C)5G + 15, where EGN = Estimated Gallons Needed, WS = Wind Speed, C= Current, G = Gallons. To convert to metric multiple the total by 3.78. This yields a much bigger and therefore much more impressive number. Please google 'Gimli Glider' if you intend to try a metric conversion.

3) Always ensure that the depth of the water exceeds the draught of your boat.

4) Make sure ALL dock lines are untied before you pull away from the berth.

Enjoy yourself.

We joke a bit of course, but safety on the water is our responsibility and the best thing to do (in my experience) is to develop small routines, checklists if you will. Fuel and fuelling are cases in point and your comparison to IEDs is right. The end of my checklist before starting up at anytime is to open hatches, including down below, stick my head in and sniff for gasoline. I trust my blowers and vapour sensors, but my nose has to be satisfied or we aren't going anywhere. When fuelling starts, I ensure that the gas is going into the tanks and not into the bilge before I get off the boat. Cruisers of the vintage of ours have a short hose connection between the deck mounted fuel filler fixture and the pipe that comes out of the tank itself. It is good practice to check these carefully at the beginning of the season for wear due to age or loosening of the clamps. It is hard to get at them but worth the contortions to know they are ok. If they are worn or split you can get a lot of fuel where you don't want it.... in a hurry.

robertpaul....right on :)
I have also noted that most fuel systems are not properly grounded

(...and you've also heard the story of the "boater" who filled up his pole holders with gasoline  )
