Great reason to own a CRUISER!

If it doesn't pertain to metal, wood, wire or fabric—but it is about vintage Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

Great reason to own a CRUISER!

Post by jfrprops » Wed Oct 15, 2014 3:20 pm

Best thing about owning a big old cruiser? Why the TAX bill of course!
I just got mine, from Mathews County Virginia, on the Bay, they rate
my 1966 33 foot seastrake as worth......$927......which worked out to
a total annual tax bill of : $13.44
And you all think I am kidding when I insist that every time I pay for a
load of fuel it exceeds the "value" of the boat?
I really think owning a cruiser is a "little head decision"....for their is
truly passion involved...why else would we do it????

Must be a Virginia thing. No tax bills like that in Illinois. They probably get us some other way as we are the 2nd highest taxed in the US

Fishing Bay marina....We will probably go there around the first of the year....The Rapp is a bit rough at the mouth of the bay, so I think the P-tank will be a bit more kind to us.

No tax bill in Michigan, unless of course, you consider paying waterways tax on fuel. To dodge that some folks fill up at the gas station but they get the ethanol that eats up the fuel system.

Yes, old cruiser guys must be a little nuts.

I got my first real tour of a wooden cruiser a couple of week's ago when I was offered a tour of Paul Cundiff's Phoenix-a 55' wooden cruiser. I must say that it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. However, I could quickly see how Cruiser ownership is not for the faint of heart. I envy you guys in many ways and have zero envy in so many other ways.

I'm glad there are some of you out there crazy enough to keep this part of boating history alive.

In Maine it is called excise tax. You pay it when you register every year, and if you document with the CG you still have to go to your town office and pay the tax to get a decal to display on your boat.

Not sure how much mine is yet. Since I only went in around Labor day and pulled out the day after Columbus day I figured I would take my chances.

I envy you guys who can keep your boat in the water all year. Maybe I will come to the bay for a visit this winter. :D

Similar property tax in California. I pay about $20 a year.
