Winter Hits Boat Buzz
Today we've been rudely reminded of what time of year us northerners are entering into. We're getting a barrage of snow, sleet and ice. We have about 2 inches of ice on everything...not such a pretty sight.
We'll see how long Boat Buzz holds on. Our power has been flickering here at home. We have enough battery backup to run our servers about 4 hours, before we shut them down.
Let's hope for the best. Winter appears to be upon us.

Bill...
Sounds like you're having a great day! I'm not into that 2 inches of ice you're getting; our 10 degrees, -5ish windchill we are having ain't so bad. Oh, did I mention the 10 to 12 inches of snow in the past 24 hours?
I hear we are in for a dilly of a winter where I call home. I'm hoping for lots of snow, so much so that it brings the water level up come spring.
Good luck to you... I keep dreaming of launching my Connie in the new year... Nice warm thoughts!!

Gee guys...what are you talking about...73 degrees here and we are headed to the coast to play in the white stuff...We call it sand.
I did take advantge of the warm weather yesterday and we did winterize the boat. I found a neat trick for romoving that sticky plug on the top of the intake manifold on a 327Q where water seems to collect, no matter what.
Use the 7/8 inch end of a 4 way lug wrench. It is a perfect fit and gives you the leverage you need if the plug has been in there for several years like mine was.

Wilson, I thought of you when Bill mentioned the ice storm last night. Kind of had a feeling we might hear something from you in contrast to our lovely diversity around here.
Not even an hour ago it was 65 F. here but it's already in the low 40's with the low expected to be around 26 tonight.
Those testy plugs would be easier with a tire tool. Can't turn a regular wrench even if you can get it on them. Great idea.

Well, it looks like our power held on through the night. Our warmest part of the day was actually 32 degrees about midnight, so much of the stuff on the trees and powerlines dripped off. It's a good thing as now the wind is howling, and the temp has dropped to about 10 with 30 mile an hour winds. Arggh. This, by the way, is NOT why I choose to live here!
And yes, I knew I'd hear from Wilson. And having been down in your area, I know you speak the truth. I wish I was there Wilson. The only consolation is that, while I am North of you, there are plenty out there who are North of me...I just think we're the coldest...at least for today.

I know we share the largest border in the world - and while we trade in so many goods - can I request that the next time you guys have a crazy ice storm - that you keep it down there? It hit us tonight and everything imaginable is coated. Guess I won't be making it down to see my Connie for another week (sigh).
Wilson: thanks for the tip on removing the plug on the Chev V8's... same applies to the 283 as with the 327.

Once again
We have had another bout of ice...this time worse than the first. Boat Buzz was down for a few hours this afternoon, while the utility company replaced downed powerlines. Havoc all over the city!

Well, we all knew Bill lives out away somewhere, I'm usually in a state of misery, Don's always been okay, Brian and Jerry live in some uninhabitable place out west and I don't know if Bret washes his tins or not but what's that big yellow one in the middle, TAXES? The one common thing that none of us like to pay tribute to.

To Al and the gang.
Wilson wins the prize for warm temps. Our frigid 55 degrees is a challenge. ha. Al's right, we are out West somewhere. This picture is from the Oakland hills looking toward San Francisco. Note you can see the Bay Bridge Towers. The base of tower on the right is the one the freighter hit spilling oil in the bay. Not good. Some can't stand an urban center but the skyline and night lights are a spectacular display.
Seasons Greeting to all.

Well, Jerry, now I'm curious!!!
It may not have anything to do with why Boat Buzz was shut down, (although I guess it could in the near future if it turns out XXX-Rated) but re-size it and post it.
Al
P.S. I certainly don't expect for a minute that Jerry's photo would be of some inappropriate nature. Please don't think that I would encourage anyone to post anything on Boat Buzz that wasn't of a clean nature. The above post was intended to be funny but obviously it didn't read out that way to some. My sincere apologies.

Well I guess the snow is really on it's way. How are you guys making out down there with that major cell that's due to hit north of the border tonight? Major dumping - I'm going to have to dig out my Connie when it's all done.
Cheers,

I don't know how you cold climate guys stand it???
The report from here on the historic Chesapeake is that while old man winter will arrive,he comes and goes several times a season, I was out on the bay this week and expect to be every week this winter. Those BOATSAFE brand engine compartment heaters are the real deal! S
Boat starts up like springtime, safe, no spark, energy efficient too.
You guys try to stay warm.

We got the extra 6" they predicted but it's powdery so the roof over the cruiser is not in danger yet.
John, I actually like the true 4 seasons we get around here. The snow is beautiful and I enjoy seeing it come around this time of year. We'll probably become snow-birds when the wife retires but until then we'll make the best with what nature brings.
