Trailer advice for 18' Riviera

Winterizing? Summerizing? Covering? Trailering? If it is about a boat out of water put it here.

Trailer advice for 18' Riviera

Post by nyholku » Thu Apr 29, 2010 5:01 am

Hi,

I'm going to need a trailer for my 18' Riviera. A trailer is included with the boat but it seems that it will not be feasible to get it accepted for road use in Finland (or Europe for that matter, basically every part that is subject to some CE or other approval stuff will need to be replaced, including brakes, axels, lights,coupling...).

So I think I need to buy a new one.

What kind of trailer is recommended? All that I've seen for sale here in Finland support the boat by rollers from the keel and bottom, but I think that is not the way to do it with classic mahogany boats?

You need a trailer with wooden bunks, preferrably four bunks. The outer two need to support at least as far forward as the forward engine stringer. Here's a photo of the one I had made for our U-22:

Also, on ours I had the prop cage protected with rollers:
