Boat covers

Post by Captbob626 » Fri Jul 22, 2011 1:11 pm

I know don ayers had referenced an article about a double cover. I tried to find it but was unable to find it. Do you still recommend the double cover and do you know the names of the 2 materials?
Thank you
Bob

I don't know about double covers, but my guy uses NapBak, it is strechable and the inside is like flannel. Mine fits like a glove and I use straps but have gotten by without them. I have never had it scratch the varnish. He even put pleats in the bow because of the heavey flair in the hull on Betty Boop.

Hello Don - would be so kind to 1) re- print your double boat cover article you mentioned below and/or 2) give type and source of material used for the flannel under cover.

Thanks, dave tuttle

Thanks. Here is the easy way. Orange button at the top takes you to main page www.chris-craft.org and log in. Then go to Membership Services at the top. A drop down will show Past Brass Bell's. Click on that. Then go to Winter 2009, page 16

Enjoy

Hello Don - I enjoyed your boat cover article you directed me to reference in the Brass Bell. Thanks, it was a big help and convinced me I want to go with your two cover concept. Now......I have searched google and inquired with several custom upholstery shops here in the greater Atlanta area and just cannot find a source for the "Tan Flannel".

Would you be so kind to ask your cover maker to provide the brand name and/or place of purchase for the heavy duty Tan Flannel fabric? It would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave Tuttle

Glad it helped Dave.

Ask for Gary and use my name. They know me and the old boats well. Remind him of the double cover with the inner flannel type material. I'm sure it is available if they give you the proper name.

Many Thanks Don. I will call Boatmans tomorrow, ask for Gary and report back my Tan Flannel findings.

I am looking to have a double cover made. A fellow restorer in California has used Kartex successfully as an inner "sock". I have a sample and think it will work well. Here is a link for more information and samples. http://www.seattlefabrics.com/marine.html#Kartex

Don - I called Gary at Boatmans and he was a big help and he remembered you. He called me back and gave me his Tan Flannel supplier - a company named Trivantage. They actually had a facility in Glen Raven, NC and I received the 8 oz Tan Flannel (PT# 710002) in two days. Again, many thanks.
