Building the ultimate boat trailer

Winterizing? Summerizing? Covering? Trailering? If it is about a boat out of water put it here.

Building the ultimate boat trailer

If you could design or change anything about your boat trailer, what would it be?

I like the idea of adding some under carriage white lights that can be switched on to see the bottom of the boat, if you get stuck after dark at the ramp.

If we are going total fantasy here it would include the following.

1) Enclosed to keep the road grime off the boat.

2) Hydraulically adjustable (like a transport trailer) so it can be used for mulitple boats.

3) Removable cross supports (again like a transport trailer) so you can put the boat on stands for painting and storage easily and anywhere.

4) Power for lights (like you mentioned). If it is enclosed the lights could be valuable at other times also.

5) etc. Matbe a water tank, compressor, head ...

Not sure as all this could actually be done on one trailer, just going for the fantasy idea.

I would add lights under the fenders so I could see the tires at night as I am going down the road. Just a push button on my dash for a quick check, not on all the time.

Quite an article in the latest" Classic Boating". Enclosed, hydraulic positioning, aluminum decks and a sleeping area to make it a travel trailer to get around DOT weight restrictions. You provide the deep pockets. CQ

I would want a back up camera at the end of the trailer. That way I wouldn't back the rudder through the Sheetrock in my garage...again!

I want to build the trailer for the Supersport with epoxy laminated plywood fenders, stained and varnished, with white vinyl upholstered accents, and a set of post war CC metal scripts incorporated. In the frame, I want some mahogany insets, and all of the welds smoothed and filled so they are no hard edges. I have located some vintage style hubcaps for 15 inch wheels, and I will use wide whitewall tires and tandem axles. I don't want a visible winch, so that will take some fabrication. No visible wiring. Walkways are a must but they should have a chrome trim with white ribbed rubber mat. The whole trailer frame should be primed two coats, and two coats of paint with a satin clear coat. Hopefully I can locate some appropriate rear tail lights too. Maybe some pinstriping to finish...

I think LED rope lighting inside the fender would look cool. I do want a rear barrier as well. I wonder what could be used as a barrier against dirt underneath.

HOWEVER.... the mention of an enclosed trailer has me thinking that for someone like me that has not enough heated storage, you could incorporate heat and humidity control in an enclosed trailer for year round storage.

Hey lets face it. If anyone could design a tandem 5000 pound trailer that cost about 14 grand and had high finish maintenance it would be a vintage boat enthusiast.

If your trailer is so heavy you need a Peterbuilt to tow it, you MAY have gone a bit overboard in its design.
