Transport of 50' plus Constellation,Wa to Great Lakes

Winterizing? Summerizing? Covering? Trailering? If it is about a boat out of water put it here.

Transport of 50' plus Constellation,Wa to Great Lakes

Post by srlittin » Fri Jan 17, 2014 9:43 pm

Before I go and buy the big boat, can anybody give a recommendation for transport of a constellation from the west coast to Lake Erie. Is road possible? Or by cargo to a East coast port? Any ideas.
Looking at purchasing a 1958 constellation
Thanks in advance
Steve

Maybe by rail or barge. It would be cheaper for you to move to the left coast. :)
There is a 1971 58' Roamer for sale in Cincinnati if you are looking for a quality boat.

Restore it on the west coast and then go for the cruise of a lifetime through the Panama Canal and up the Hudson and Erie Canal.

I like M-Fine's idea!

I was going to suggest the same thing but he already did. :D

Would love to see some pictures since AB is also a '58.

thanks for the replies, the 1953 22 ft express cruiser that we currently own has been a great boat, but not big enough for a big holiday. I grew up arround wood boats in New Zealand so I am aware of what it takes to keep a big wood boat. I looked at a 1955, 53' constellation in Michigan 2 years ago, wonderful boat, but couldn't come to an agreement on price with the current owner.

I was also thinking of the Panama to NY idea as well, but I talked to an owner who did that, they took 7 months, I don't have that much time. I still work for a living. hopefully that will change soon.

I also considered trying to get a boat to Lake Superoir or Lake Michigan, and taking a month trip to Lake Erie, All those options and no time to play.
Alot of good looking boats forsale in the North West

Keep the ideas coming

If you make it happen don't stop in New York!

Go north and down the St. Lawrence all the way to Erie. :D
