Do you know the original color or colors used on the bottomside of a 1950 Runabout? Thanks Richard

Richard, you didnt mention which model, but according to Conrad's essential guide, all of the runabouts that year, except for the racing runabout, had copper-bronze bottom paint.

My friend, Tom Addis, who i consider a racing runabout expert, tells me that he believes the racing runabouts went to a copper bottom when they went to the unpainted mahogany hull sides. This is contrary to what Conrad suggested when he said after red they went to "gold".

The "Essential guide" is a valuable resource to all of us involved in our "hobby". My copy is nearly worn out and will soon require duct tape to hold it together.

That being said and with all due respect to Jerry's tremendous contribution it does contain numerous errors that I would qualify as "interpretive" as apposed to "neglectful".

In my opinion this should be considered just one of many sources (including the information shared on this forum) to be considered when seeking truth in our quest for accuracy.

Many of us have already reached this conclusion but for the benefit all who are new to the hobby : "Trust but verify"

For what its worth I concur that varnished racers had bronze bottom paint.
