interesting post about folks going to state registrations to trace back and find former owner of some beloved boat.

Does anyone have info or experience with getting the Feds/Coast Guard to help with that paper search on a DOCUMENTED VESSEL?

I tried in the early 80's to do that here in seattle and they had thrown away all the old paper records a few years before that, so there was no way to trace pre-war boat numbers in this district, at least. but no harm asking.

Thanks Don, interesting.

Since I am looking for a info on a Fairchild Scout 30 built in 1979...not all that long ago....maybe worth asking?

This is a national Coast Guard deal...not local as to district I think???

gosh, i dont know, when i checked they had a number of districts around the country. so i would start with the district where you think the boat might have been registered to see. Who knows, there may be different policies in different districts? good luck.

yes, the districts must be sort of political...because the one I mail my renewal to is in Falling Waters WEST VIRGINIA?
I am an old whitewater guy...but that sounds a bit weird!
