Factory information
How would I find the factory that my 1948 17' runabout was built in? I have the hull card and it shows the destination but I don't see anything on it that show the origin.
What is a B.S.O. No. at the top of the hull card next to the Hull No.?
Pete

Thanks Bill. Is the B.S.O.# an internal Build Order? Similar to a P.O. perhaps?
Pete, I just did a family tree search for "Forrest Boerma" and found the following death certificate.
Birth Date: 17 Dec 1917
Death Date: 9 Mar 2001
Death Residence: Cascade, Michigan
Also lived in the following Michigan locations:
East Grand Rapids, Cascade, Kent, Forest Hills and Kentwood.
I'm betting that he was employed at the Holland plant, making your boat a Holland factory boat. The commute to the Cadillac plant would have been too far and costly.

The Holland plant was built in 1939 and was the main plant for cruisers from 25' to 45'. It was sold out of the Murray-Chris Craft bankruptcy in the later 1980's. In the later years fiberglass cruisers were built there.
Actually, the new- for- 1964 fiberglass 38' Commander, Chris Craft's first large, fiberglass cruiser, had it's molds made and was built in the brick building on the grounds adjacent to the main Holland plant. The hulls were then moved into the main plant (wooden building) for finishing out. Chris Smith told me that they did this due to the worry about the fiberglass chemicals and fire in the wooden main plant as opposed to the brick building.
Anyway, the Cadillac plant built smaller boats. And the original plant in Algonac built small boats and probably only some of the very large ones as well after the opening of the Holland plant in 1939.

Chad,
Thanks for the information!!
Does anyone else out there have the name Forrest G. Boerma as the signer on their hull card? This was on my 17' Deluxe and I would be interested who signed Al's hull card on his 1948 17' Deluxe. Second question is that I am still confused as to the B.S.O. No. B10336 at the top of my hull card and could this shed any light on the factory. Does this stand for Shop Order?

My 1948 Deluxe was not far in production behind Pete's. BSO # B10352 (his-10336) delivered in June 1948 in NYC. It was also a Forrest G. Boerma signed card.
So...it must be a Cadillac Plant origin too. Right? The card does not indicate this.
Interesting...when the orig gas tank was re done Dec '09, we found a bottom stamped emblem, "Chris Craft Corp, Cadillac, Mich."

My Cadillac boat had a gas tank that was marked on one end with the info on the photo below. I can make out some numbers, "Caruthersville, and Chris Craft Corp". I assume parts were being shipped back and forth between plants when supplies were low. Perhaps my Cadillac boat had a tank from the Caruthersville plant.

My 16' Special runabout (Rocket) was signed by Gordon Benson with a BSO No. B-7451 (R-16-797). Which plant would have manufactured this boat?
I am unable to decipher the name on our 1949 17' Deluxe Runabout is BSO No. C-3134 (R17-1817). I have attached the hull card
Any inforamtion would be appricated. - - - Bill

Re: Factory information
My two cents:
BSO C-9610, Hull No R-18-749 was signed by Anthony F. Dugan on 1/31/52.
Interesting that R-18-749 was signed and dated by Dugan BEFORE R-18-733.

Re: Factory information
Correction to last reply.
"BEFORE R-18-733" should read "BEFORE R-18-739"
"BEFORE R-18-733" should read "BEFORE R-18-739"

My 1956 Conti (CL-18-230) was signed by Anthony Dugan as well on May 11, 1956
BSO is E-8061
On the top of my hull card it says Plant: Cadillac.
Don't they all list that?
